What do you need reminders for in reefing?

Are there things that slip your mind when it comes to reefing?

I used to forget a lot of things, especially running 2 Display tanks, 1 Frag Tank, and the odd QT.

- Changing Carbon Media
- Changing GFO Media
- RO filters, and RO membrane replace.
- Harvesting Algae Scrubber
- Refilling dosing containers
- Testing Water Parameters
- Changing a pair of T5's
- Filling up Salt Water Reservoir for Auto Water changer
- Cleaning pumps
- Cleaning Skimmer Venturi

TIME SEEMS TO FLY quicker than you think for scheduled maintenance!!

So I built a DIY AUTO-REMINDER Gadget to keep track of various things I needed done. Separate from my personal calendars, emails, and alerts.

Set it and Forget it.....it automatically & actively gives me in-advance notice, including tracking of overdue events.

I can track up to 10 things that need reminders for. Any interval (days, weeks, or months). The screen give me clear indication (a count down bar graph) when the next reminder is about to come. This allows me to ensure I have supplies ready for the activity. LEDS' flash to get my attention.

The Auto-Minder tracks the time-stamp history of each of the 10 reminders for last 10 times done, which acts like a log of events (from past).

The logging allows me to adjust my schedule for best fit maintenance, next time.

One example. If my Skimmer venturi get's plugged every so often, I 1-button Enter the completed cleaning into the device. Then next time the timer knows roughly in advance when venturi will plug.

Here are the details.

This is a 2nd GEN version prototype I enhanced with Multi-Color LEDS and simple Stick on LABELS. Status LED's give me Green (good), Blue (Coming up), and RED (Over due) quick indicators. Including the preditive bar graphs.

I never miss a thing any more, since the AUTO-MINDER it's always in my face in the equipment room.

Ever since enabling this device, all my tanks are running smooth and stable.

I spill water on the floor nearly every week from allowing my RODI to refill my ATOs. Now I set a 10m alarm on my phone to remind me to check it (worked well this week at least!)

I track everything on the Aquarimate app. Unlikely I'd remember when to change t5 and UV bulbs when the time comes. This also helps me track trends if something goes wrong (or right).

hence the reason I am thinking about a roller mat for the Cade....

oh, and where I set the frozen food to thaw.... then I smell where I left it 2 days later...
The frozen food hits hard. So upsetting to realize you left a whole flat of mysis sitting on the table, or even worse you find the empty package from the dog eating it all after stealing it off the counter :(

Occasionally forget to change those socks since in my sump they're pretty well hidden behind green acrylic. Really should change them off a schedule but nah I go by how they look since that's how the brain chooses to do it.

0 out that refractometer once a month
check KH & Ca once a week
order filter bags in bulk

Are there things that slip your mind or that you need reminded of when it comes to reefing?

Could pertain to maintenance, chemistry, livestock or anything!

What's something you often forget to do?

Please give us some input!

I am new at this and I literally write everything down in a notebook. I love this hobby so much I lay in bed at night and wonder… what did I forget? Lol my biggest issue is something coming up that I’m unfamiliar with.

My ATO beeping at me in the middle of the night because I forgot to fill up my RODI container

Or overflowing my my bin when filling it with RODI. Usually my partner reminds me once it's spilling on the floor

I kept forgetting to Unplug my ATO When doing a Water Change. Would hear the Pump running dry, after it had pumped all the RO/DI into the sump. My ATO Reservoir isn’t big enough to cause any great harm. I wrote ATO! On my Syphon hoses in red to remind me.

I have to set my phone timer when I am making RODI water. I have overflowed the brute can more times than I can tell you. Luckily my water making and changing system is downstairs in the basement right next to a floor drain so it's not too bad. Still, it's embarrassing when my husband says, " do I hear water running somewhere?"
I attached a simple float valve to the outflow of the RODI in the brute. It at least prevents overflow when making water. You still want to shut the water off to prevent backflushing the RO membrane.
