We have been talking to a few of our fellow hobbyist and have decided we want to consisder doing a "certificate of authenticity" with any LE coral we sell. That way somewhere down the road after the buyer grows it out and decides they want to sell a frag there is no squabbles over the whole liniage thing. What do you think? COA or No?

I think that if you are that caught up in LE corals something is up IMO. But if you are going to spend the money on a Tyree or similar small frag you should get something to prove what it is exactly that you have.

They tried to make me go to coral rehab and I said no no no.

Incase anyone didn't get it; look up Amy Weinhouse. lol

Thats what Im talking about. Im not talking about a typical blue or red zoanthind or even some of the crazy palys like AOG's or Armegeddons. Im talking strictly the LE stuff that people pay big bucks for like, but not limited to:

Tyree Watermelon
Original or Oregon Mummy Eye Chalice
Emerald Mummy Eye Chalice
AfterBurner Chalice
Flamethrower Chalice
Mystic Sunset Montipora
True Undata Montipora
Bazooka Joe Chalice
BubbleGum Monster
Zuniga Pink Lemonade SPS
Lime in the Sky SPS
Bali Tricolor SPS
Berry Garcia Chalice
Goldfinger Chalice
Mike Paletta corals
Steve Tyree corals

ETC ETC ETC............

Mosly what Im talking about are the one's that are always brought into question.

i vote yes.....i'm hooked on le's there the new drug of the coral realm haha

would the COA have lines back to the original LE? Could be a pretty cool plus for buyers (and sellers ;) ).

I say yes, lots of times I've seen blue zoas marked as tub's blues but they look nothing like the True Tub's Blues.

voting yes. A serial # system would be nice to track back to the original piece. Each original get a # (1234) and when i frag that piece i request a coa based on the original # and the frag cert gets the same # plus an exention (1234-01).

Could be beneficial but easily manipulated, COA or not it's still a buyer beware world because you could make a COA for Super duper OIAB flaming mummy xenia if you wanted to. I think it may ease some peoples minds but would not solve the problem.

i say NO, bc now i can buy a "LE" coral, go on ebay or anywhere else find one that looks that same buy a HUGE colony and rip you all off.....dont forget people money makes the world go round and some one WILL do that

Honestly this is just going to drive prices up more and really do nothing to really prove it is what it is.Deal with a reptuable dealer problem solved and honestly I'm not going to track down every person I recieved LE stuff from including tyree to get this in the past 10 years lol.And if this is what people want and the trend goes this way prices will go up as my time is worth somthing and I have tried to keep prices low in fact my last true mummy eye frags were half the going price if I need to catalog and keep track of everything I sell thats limited prices will go up if I can just frag as it grows and put online without hassels I'll keep it reasonable. If you dont trust me that what I say it is what it is dont buy it.

I think that its hard to prove where it came from. I have gotten wild coral that look like LE coral. I dont keep up with the fads of LE coral therefore I would just sell it for what it was. I noticed that my eBay auction would go through the roof and when people got the coral they would say that its some LE coral. So if those people think its a LE coral then when they sell or trade frags of it they will put LE in the title of it. When in reality its a wild caught coral. Of course this is just my opinion on it. Some people like only purchasing coral that have LE in the title.

I voted no. I do like many of the LE corals, but I buy based on looks and not lineage. I think hobbyists should just buy the corals they like and can afford. I don't think a COA would benefit the hobby as a whole. It is simply a new marketing tool.

I have to say no. The COA will most definitely drive the prices up in my opinion. I would also keep in mind that even though "LE" corals may have been named by a particular member of the reefing community, the fact of the matter is that everything originated from the wild and chances are you may be able to find wild pieces or pieces that originate from other sources that look just as nice as the "LE" pieces. It all boils down to the appearance of the coral with me.

They do it with dogs and cats to prove they are pure bred. What would be the difference? IMO the service should at least be available for those who want it.

Well for one theres a organization that regulates and handles all the papering of dogs and cats its a very regulated and its a separate entity that usually cant be fraud-ed ware as this will have no regulation and animals not corals can be tested to prove there breed and family if its contested just like in humans needing to know there family bloodline but to my knowledge corals cant as there make up is the same if its the same species so it would show just to be a chalice or whatever else .
