I was reviewing the topic " What was your GREATEST tank victory in 2018" and noticed many made mention of acquiring Or starting their DREAM TANK.

This thread is: WHAT IS YOUR DREAM TANK ??
I believe many of us would love to hear and share this.

My dream tank would ultimately be one I can go diving in, but right now I am good with a 500-700 gallon

I could definitely tell you what I would have if I could snap fingers. In my unfinished basement I would build something like an 8'×8'x maybe 30" tall lagoon to be viewed from the top down. Maybe a steel and plywood frame built on a short stand with a few big metal halides hanging over it. Would be a coral reef top down lagoon filled with tangs and angels, hopefully angels that don't eat too many corals lol. Will have a compartment on the side for water to flow through a skimmer area and a large ATO attached. And the more I think about it the more I think I should just start building it lol.

Greenhouse with tropical island and various connected pools with tidal flats, mangroves, lagoon, fore reef and a freshwater area on the island with a couple of lounge chairs for hanging out. I would have birds and lizards too.

What, no wet bar? Isn’t that essential for successful reefing?

A big cube. 93-125 gallons.

The 150g cube is a beast BUT unfortunately for me to say: DO NOT Buy a Marineland version. I know of three person who experienced this tank either splitting or bursting.

I want to say an enormous tank, 500+ gallons, but realistically with kids and a full time job I know it wouldn't get the attention it would need. I'd be happy with a 48x30x20 eurobraced tank with external overflow

My dream tank would be something the size of my living room times 3, so that way I could snorkel/swim in it.

Probably powered by some heavy public aquarium lights like the Orphek Amazonas 500. Tank would need a monster protein skimmer and UV sterilizer (I’ve never used a sterilizer before, but if we’re going all out, why not?). It would be plumbed down into a 1000-2000 gallon sump in my basement filled with any type of media possible and hundreds of pounds of live rock.

I would also connect a display refugium, somewhere around but no bigger than 200 gallons. Why? Well, in my opinion, there are some fish that NEED a small (200 gallons is small???) tank to be enjoyed. Such examples include blennies, gobies, the smaller wrasses, and mandarin dragonets. Good luck trying to spot them in a living room sized tank!

And now for the fun part: the stocking of the display and the refugium!

Display Stocking -

A trio of Vlamingii tangs
A trio of Blonde Naso tangs
A school of Yellow tangs
5-10 Purple tangs
5-10 Blue tangs
A few Lieutenant tangs/Sohal tangs
3 or so large Emperor Angels (I know they nip corals and inverts, but in a tank that size the damage is probably negligible.)
A trio of Quoyi’s Parrotfish
A GIANT school of green chromis (50-100 as feeders or dithers)
School of Anthias
A few Volitan Lions
10 or so Golden trevally (pilotfish)
Something like a few Coral cat sharks

All of which would be an SPS dominant reef

For the display fuge it’d probably be more common fish in the home hobby like maroon clowns, Ctenochaetus tangs, maybe a snowflake eel, dwarf lionfish etc....
