What salt do you use?

Im having a problem finding red sea salt. Petsolution went up on there amount $60 instead of $50 and now free shipping is over $75 instead of $50.

Anybody know if there is a store that sells red sea salt cheaper?

Just buy two and you'll go over $75 and have to order less often. :D

I just teamed up with another member who was ordering one bucket and I got one. Free shipping is always nice. I dont think you will find it any cheaper than $60

Ask and you shall recieve!
Email ad from petsolution a few mins ago. Free shipping on dry goods over the total of $39 for one week only. Looks like im buying salt sometime this week

I use tropic marin pro reef salt! It seems to do pretty well for me and amazon has a 200 gallon bucket for $72 with free shipping.

Just got a box of esv today will post results..... I have heard about 5-6 guys in the local reef club here say its amazing.... Really see a response in growth ect. My buddy who owns my lfs is probably switching

Esv switched to this salt about a month ago. Really easy to mix. Always right on every time. Everything coral wise is looking really good maybe the best I have seen my corals do

And like diamondreef said don't have to use 2 part as much when u mix the salt there are four things to mix together. 2 liquids and two different salts. always the same results

Sweet :) let us know how your tank likes it. Ours loves it. Everything looks awesome :)

Mixed my first batch this am, extremely easy to mix! Crystal clear when mixed and zero residue.

Corals love it, granted I only did a 5 gal water change there was a noticeable increase in polyp extension!

So far extremely happy. Keep u posted

Red Sea Regular. I drank the red koolaid and the club offered so that's what I use. LOL For the reason the others use it, I run bio-pellets and need a lower ALK. Plus I stocked up when Petsolutions had it cheap and free shipping.

Not to burst your bubble but I have kept fish both salt and fresh for 30+ years and I got heavily into reef tank keeping about a year ago. I started useing tropic marin salt a very good salt. The price is going up due to import costs from germany. Then I tried salinaty, a new brand only found in very premium fish stores also excellent. Then I went to instant ocean for the price but let me tell you sometimes you get what you pay for. Things started dying and conditions suffered and at first I couldn't figure it out. I change my water every day. I went and talked to a friend who owns a premium fish store and he told me instant ocean is inferier salt so I went back to salinity. Over night everything came right back the way it had been and even the stuff like mushroom coral that was doing ok under instant ocean became much better. Instant ocean dosen't have the same amount of additives like calcium and other things corals need to thrive. As far as I'm concerned they should be ashamed of themselves calling that reef salt. Like I said sometimes you get what you pay for and I just don't see the point in having a reef tank if you cant keep certain things due to inferier salt. Believe me its worth the money for the better salt I was so angry when my tank was not doing well and I couldn't figure it out but I am super happy again now. I even have things books say are impossible to keep and they are all fine so the proof is in the pudding.

Not to burst your bubble, but there are many people who successfully keep gorgeous and healthy reef tanks with Instant Ocean. :)

There may be something in the Tropic Marin your corals became accustomed to having and when you started diluting that, they became unhappy. Or maybe it was something else entirely. To be honest with you, the fact you had a change overnight says it may not have been the salt, as there would still be plenty of Instant Ocean in your system. Just a thought.

I believe Instant Ocean is one of, if not the oldest salt producing company for our hobby. If they were so terrible, I don't think they would last that long.

I have compared many salts to Reef Crystals on my own (Oceanic, Red Sea Coral Pro, Coralife, Kent) and always come back to it. Currently I am comparing it to BioSea and they seem very similar though BioSea has larger particles and dissolves a little slower.

From what I have learned in that results very from person to person. What works for someone may not work for another. I know lots of people that are using Instant Ocean and are having great results. I'm currently using Red Sea Pro but since I am unable to find it local and cant find it cheaper then $80 with shipping... I'm considering reef crystals.
