What Salt Mix are you using in your reef?

Ok thanks. So should I mix some of the instant ocean with my salt water so I can get like around 1.028 and mix it with my water a little at a time? Or just do salt water changes?

1. Mix new salt water in bucket to desired salinity (you quoted 1.022).

2. Do 25% water change in tank, using the water from the bucket.

3. Wait 1 week.

4. Repeat steps 1-4 until the water in the tank matches your desired final salinity (1.022).

5. When tank salinity is 1.022, return to regular maintenance schedule EXCEPT that you would continue to use 1.022 water during changes. This will keep your salinity at the desired level.

I can bet my life on it if ESV was the same price as RC your list would dramatically change to ESV. Been using RC for 3 years and just recently switched to ESV when i did my upgrade and all i can say is my polyps are exploding,in 2 weeks im having growth tips popping up and its so easy to mix and done in about 40 minutes ready for a change unlike other salts that take hours. If my wallet can handle the price in the future I cant see myself changing salts

Hermits are pretty tolerant of low salinity. I have some blue legged and red legged hermits in my brackish opae ula tanks. SG at about 1.012.

I'm thinking of changing from seawater to salt mix because I have to dose the seawater for alk and mg and the ph is off. Rather than testing each new batch of water I get, I'm thinking of switching. I'll take all the advice I can get!

I just ordered a 200 gal box of Kent Reef Salt. At 1.024-1.025 the calcium and mag are around 500 cal & 1400 mag. Alkalinty is around 9. Defiantly use a salt with elevated parameters if you are wanting to help out with your dosing routine.

If it is real seawater from the ocean the parameters will always be off. Probably high phosphates too. I have access yo filtered seawater for free but I make my own.

The seawater is purified so no phosphates. I buy it from a lfs I trust. But I still wonder if I'd be better off with ro water and a good salt mix.
