Hello people!
I have a Bristol tooth tang it qt and hes breathing very fast. I gave him a FW dip and slowly ramping up his copper. He has no signs of ich or velvet. Hes just staying in 1 spot and breathing heavy. I have him for 3 days now. I'm thinking I should add him to a different qt that everyone is doing well in (yes I know it will reset the clock on that tank ) but I dont know what to do.
Thanks for your help

Velvet can present present in the gills and cause this. I would NOT expose your other fish to this. I would continue bringing up the copper as quickly as possible.

bristletooth tangs tend to be really shy at first and easily spooked. Make sure to provide something in the tank that it can hide in and feel comfortable. what type of copper are you using and what is the level and how are you testing?
Also make sure ammonia is at 0.

Ammonia is 0 and I'm using coper power

If your tang does have velvet, the freshwater dip is a great start. Giving it a 60-90 minute bath immediately following the FW dip in an acriflavine product like Ruby Reef Rally will help the fish's immune system and greatly increase the survival chance as RRR has both antiseptic and antibiotic qualities. Then ramping up the copper as quickly as possible: small regular doses AM, lunch, PM until you reach therapeutic level. Just remember, the copper stops "future" free swimmers and kills them, but the fish still has to weather the previous parasites' attack on the fish's immune system. So the RRR helps. And then also consider a wide spectrum antibiotic like Kanaplex to help fend off bacterial infections that commonly occur due to the fish's suppressed immune system from the copper.

Fish is in therapeutic levels of copper and still breathing heavy but swimming around. Hes not eatin but occasionally picking up see weed and spotting it out. Hes not showing any signs of ich or velvet. I dont have RRR on hand. Any other suggestions? Is it pos6for him to pull around?

So he has improved since coming into therapeutic copper?

I'm thinking if putting him in a new tank with no copper in it. Maybe he's sensitive to copper in general. Does that make sense?

I wouldn’t take him out of copper, much more likely that he has velvet, ich, or something than that he is uniquely sensitive to copper. Can you increase surface agitation in the qt? A pump or powerhead pointed up and/or a air stone can help

Typically Tangs are not overly sensitive to a therapeutic level of copper. I would leave him be for now. I agree maybe aerate heavily.

What level is your copper at and how are you testing?
