I had the ich issue happen to me recently. I bought a tang and it infected all my fish
What was your last big mistake?

First time I bought chalice frags I dipped them using water that I had just mixed up (obviously not well enough) and left them in for too long. When I got home 4 hours later there were a hand full of bare skeletons in my tank.

It was, the smell of it just filled the room. Luckily a friend of ours owns a dry cleaning company so we got it cleaned and it doesn't even show a stain!

Thinking an egg crate cover on my QT would be enough to protect my new Watchman Goby from jumping out. Nope, he committed suicide while I was at work. I still have no idea how he managed to do that....

Hey guys, new to the hobby a few months ago. My big mistake happened when setting up my new tank and used some coral glue to attach 2 pieces of rock together. I placed the bottle of coral glue on top of my tank and applied pressure to the rocks. Without realizing it, my elbow knocked the bottle of glue over and it started leaking out. It was about 3 mins until I realized what I did and saw the mess I made to my acrylic tank. The glue leaked out and dried on top and was dripping down the front of the tank as well. After scrapping the glue off and seeing all the scratches on my new tank, I had to sand the tank down and polish it. I simple 30 minute project turned into a 3 hour job. That sucked!

I haven't been testing my RODI water for the last month totally spaced on doing that...I remembered yesterday to test it and come to find out its at 36pmm I nearly through my tds meter at the wall I was so upset with myself for being so careless aaaaaaargh

Egg crate is not enough to keep small fish from jumping. I cover the tops of the eggcrate with rows of gutter mesh. I get it from Lowes but you can find it other places as well.

My latest, and most certainly won't be the last. After spending 10+ hours polishing my 6ft long 225G acrylic tank. Get the sand, scape and water in. Looked beautiful! Filled it with water and turned on the RW-15s. This resulted in a massive storm in tank. sand, cloudy. 3 days later..... All clear; but the acrylic was scratched up pretty bad in some spots. Painful lesson learned (RINSE everything prior to placing in tank with acrylic). Ce la vie. Will live with it for the time being.

I certainly know that now. He was 2.5 inches long so I figured it would be ok. Now I use a custom screen made from a BRS kit but this is a great idea too. Thanks for the tip!

Fun Topic? I'm not sure if I agree with you there but while I'm at it ill share mine. Adding 20 pound of live sand to a already established tank. Needless to say, sand dissolves into water pretty quickly, it also kills fish!
Trying to plug my return pump back in after a water change...while holding the filling hose at the same time. Blew that power strip out! Oops!

My big mistake was used Amquel plus detox . They state that safe for corals. Lost all my sps corals and some soft corals.
My tank turned it to milk in a hour. I did 30-40 % wc asap. I could not save much corals.
Second mistake was over dozing 2 parts alk. due to Hanna checker reagent. Since that accident I use Salifert test kit.
I hope that someone learn from my mistakes.

Last big mistake was having taken some seaweed (calerpa) from the sea for our temporary tank, and in doing so, introduced glass anemones to said tank, I then moved the corals into a brand new set-up, and although I took no calerpa, and no decor to the new tank, I managed to take a glass anemones on the foot of a leather coral, which is now obviously thriving and multiplying!

Buying a used freshwater tank and not asking the previous owner if he treated it with copper. One year later I decided to do a Triton test and realized why I couldn't grow any coral. Setting up a new tank as we speak and can't wait to see some positive results!
