Hey everyone,

So I recently read an article from one of last year's CORAL magazine issues about the Bounce Mushroom and it's rise in the hobby. In the article it talks about this hobby's tendancy to go in waves or fads of what's popular. I've only been doing this for a little over two years, but I remember the first time I saw a bounce, and the price tag associated with it ;Greedy, and I was floored. Anyway, this got me wondering if the Bounce was still still at the top of the list. I've seen a good bit on the "Homewrecker", are we moving back towards acros? What do you guys think is hot right now? What's next in line to top the charts?

My gut says it will be an sps or zoa. The home wrecker is getting a lot of attention for sure.

Bounce and kryptonite mushrooms seem to be on the way out now.

They still have that price tag though. I'm kind of hoping the shrooms era is coming to an end... I want some jaw breaker or eclectus and still have money for food :) In your opinion, do you think the top frags will always stay in the circle of zoas, SPS, or shrooms?

Jake Adams wrote an article about bounce mushrooms exposing the truth saying that to get one to bounce place one under high par blue leds and it will bounce. My coral vendor who sells the same stuff jfox, battlecorals and all the high end vendors sell, says it's just a mushroom with cancer. Also I feel like I can't have an amazing reef now because all these ridiculous prices. Thank god I found my vendor who sells the most high end stuff for dirt cheap I got a 2 inch frag of Walt Disney for 30 bucks

If you're getting WD frags for $30 you should have no problem creating an amazing reef ;)

Do you have a link to where Jake says that? I can't seem to find it with a quick google.

Ah, I do feel like it would be hard to fill a tank with a bunch of name brand pieces on a tight budget. At the same time I think there is a wealth of "wild" stuff out there that is absolutely stunning too. In a hobby where you are paying for looks though, you have to expect higher prices for prettier pieces.

Very interesting. I read through like five articles, but seemed to have missed that first one. All of the later article that I saw from him read like the Bounce was a new strain and not something developed by us. Thanks for the link!

No problem my coral guy was big in the industry and saw seen prices were getting outrages and instead of going with the curv he went against it. He sells all the same stuff that's the top dogs sell but at a very big fraction of the price. I really didn't believe the bounce thing till he showed me himself and then told me how u can get super crazy corals for dirt cheap that are most of the time completely encrusted and large none of these half inch frags for 400 bucks

Well things like WD and other such high end named corals cost what they do because the demand is high and the supply is low. You can't buy things like WD and home wrecker dirt cheap in any meaningful quantity from a wholesaler or supplier. If you could you'd make a killing in very short order. And a supplier selling frags like those at dirt cheap probably won't be in business very long. :p

Now if you grow them out yourself then you can sell them for whatever you want. But that's a different story.

Since you said your coral guy sells stuff currently far cheaper than anyone else would you share where other members of the forum can buy these premium frags at such low prices? :) (Full disclosure I do not sell any high end designer frags myself so I have no skin in the game)

more beginners are getting into sps which will cause the price to go up.
With all the equipment you can buy these days to make it easier and all the info out there we are seeing more and more people trying their luck with them. beginners ignited the zoa craze years back and I also loved them many years ago but find them to invasive unless they have their own island.
