Whats that weird thing i found this morning on my clowns tail? I cant tell what its ? Any idea?

It looks like there’s something on both sides, unless I’m mistaken.
The object looks very similar to a parasitic copepod or isopod.
@Jay Hemdal can better answer and talk about treatment for them.

I tried to catch him, and it fell case closed. Nothing bad thank you

That’s good - if it was one of the pods, they generally can’t reproduce in tanks to my knowledge so it should be self limiting.

I'm thinking this was a bit of fish poop, stuck to a scale. Overall, the fish looks really good.

The clowns have not been eating for 4 days. I bought them quarantined from dr reef. Tried 5 dfferent frozen foods + garlic today. Nothing

Well, that's an issue. It helps for us to have all symptoms/clues when looking at fish health problem. You said, "...case closed. Nothing bad..." but a clownfish not eating for 4 days is very serious.

It wasn't clear, have they not eaten since you got them, or did they eat, but then stop 4 days ago?
Are there other animals in the tank with them? If so, how are they doing?
Have you contacted Dr. Reef to let him know?
Cany you post your water quality parameters?

Thanks,

Jay

They havent been eating to begin with. My tank is 200G cycled, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 16.8. My temp is 77F. My ph is 8.03 stable. Drops 7.99 max at night. My light intensity is 20%. No corals. Just reef cleaner package. All the cuc is doing great as far as i can tell. I even went further than that, and did an icp test, and they found 128 MG aluminum, and 9 TIN. And i did a thread about it here, and they said those wont bother fish, and not on dangerous level, and thats a new tank syndrome. I still went above and beyond. And bought two little fishies metal absorber, added it to my tank this morning. My salinity is 1.025 also confirmed by ICP

My alk last time i checked was 7.8 i use nyos salt. I am not sure what the problem is. I am emailing dr reef back, and forth. Ill attach the last reply i got. I have live rock 16 pounds from tampa bay in my refugim. Plenty of hiding spaces in my 200G.

U can tell the fish is healthy, very active no weird behavior that i can tell, like scratching, or anything visible on the body.

If there’s anything else you can suggest me as i am really worried and feeling bad about it. Ill really appreciate it. I also did an icp test on my rodi water, and they found nothing i always change my filtees. My city tap water tds is 89. And i have brs 6 stage unit with dual DI canisters. And 2 membrances.

I bought 4 types of frozen food. Ill post a picture of them too, i tried today seachem garlic. I also bought selcon i havent tried yet. And i also bought today the same PE mysis that dr reef use to feed. Which hopefully by tomorrow they ear. I dont know if today and i could be wrong i see one of the clowns eating very very tiny amount in the water (not sure) cant confirm. Thats everythint i bought in the pictures and tried.

If i got them, and they were eating, and then they stopped eating that wouldve made me more anxious. But they havent been interested in food since day 1.

That’s all very weird. Sorry, nothing jumps out at me as being the issue here. Clownfish rarely show issues with not eating and when they do, it’s always some major water quality issue or disease. The foods you are trying should all work fine.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile videoing them and putting some food in? Maybe I can get some clue from their reaction.

Here is an article I wrote about fish anorexia, but I’m afraid it isn’t going to have an answer for you, just background information:

Well, thank you jay for your reply. Unfortunately if they don’t eat they are going to die, and get replaced nothing i can do to save them i tried to even get the same food they were eating but nothing. Tomorrow new day ill try.

thats a short video i recorded earlier for my friend, had to mute it because i was mad cursing lol. But u can see turned off the flow, and added the mysis, and garlic extract. And they really did not care about food at all. I could be wrong maybe maybeeee i seen one of the clowns eat very very tiny portion of the mysis? Could be wrong.

Also another possibility my friend was saying is i added pods and fish the same day, are they feasting at pods making them full? Again that’s another possibility in my head.

Sorry, I don’t see any issues in the video. If they had filled up on pods, they still would have eaten the next day.

If you, and all your expertise sir, and you couldn’t find anything wrong with my clowns. Im doomed haha. Extremely weird case. I wouldn’t doubt the copper, and the double dose of prazi pro, he was doing put a dent in them.

Yeah - this is bugging me. I looked at the video again, still no clues. The fish swim fine and are even paired up. The tank is overly still, but you said the you turned the pumps off to video them. Be sure that there is good aeration when the pumps are on - something breaking the water's surface.

One final thought - you said the ammonia is zero. Not all ammonia test kits work well, which kit do you have?

I have the api, which i know it doesn’t work well. I need to get me a salifret one or red sea. But i mean its been more than a month, and i cycled with fritz 900 and fishless fuel + i added live rock that came submerged and macro algae that came with the rocks. And + i got free urchin that’s doing great. And urchins are sensitive to water.

I cycled up to 2ppm. And my fish load + food wont even add up to 2ppm

Yes - the urchins would be a good test for most water quality issues......

I paid 250$. This is frustrating to be honest. I am so tempted to go and write a review about my experience with him. But again i don’t want to sound rude about it. But like i dont know its very odd issue.

I tried to feed them this morning PE mysis, and added a cap full of garlic extract waited 5 min. Added it. One of the clowns showed interest to it, but i dont see them go at it. At all. Iv seen clowns eat before, they devour those mysis. My clowns are 3”. And they dont even go to the big pieces which they are capable of 100%.

My old tank had a lot of issues, and when i added my clowns they were darwin clowns. And immediately they started eating pellets, flakes, frozen. Not even an hour in, and they were eating all kinds of foods. And they are still alive at my friend’s till these days fat, and healthy.

Nothing i can do at this point beside wait, and see what happens. He said hes going to ship me replacements. Worst case scenario i move those to another QT tank i have.

I wouldn't panick if I were you. My clowns took 2 weeks before they started eating in my tank, they just took some adjusting that's all. Doesn't necessarily mean there's any disease or water quality issue.

It looks like they're the only fish in the tank? Sometimes with fish It can be a " monkey see monkey do" situation, especially with feeding

The shipping and dips are very stressful for fish. Once they've settled in, they'll be happy and eating in no time.

I also wouldn't want to get the replacements shipped yet because once these 2 start eating, you'll have a clown war going on.

Don't worry or get frustrated, just keep up with the daily feeding attempts and be patient

Yes, i started with 2 clowns. I was going to add more fish eventually from him. But for now i was going to see how my clowns going to adjust
