Where Have The SPS Gone??

For the folks able to keep them were lucky. I think most reefers have a hard time keeping them or maybe had a crash. Also they can't see the real beauty in them. Say something like its. Just a stick where is the movement. I like my corals to move like a frogspawn. Means more acros and montis for us sps lovers. Sps arcos colanys don't ship well so a lot don't even make it to the states alive so importers take a risk in bringing them in.

are you thinking about switching back to LPS Uchin?

Hi Sara, its our Mother Of Pearl , got this piece in from Reefer Madness when they were still in business as a colony, went through a couple of crashes , we were able to save tiny ( less than 1/2" ) frags of them and grew them out for almost 2 years now. That Colony we lost was one of our fav. , well better have some thing left than nothing !

Thanks, it's a beautiful piece! I used to love going over to Reefer Madness when we were out on vaction to see all the goodies in stock and then ship some treasures home!

I checked your site and it might be a while before I can get a frag of that one ;-) Need to stock the new tank with fish first!

Its good to see that this "Where Has The SPS Gone" thread has shine some light on a topic that has been somewhat dormant on all ends.I like the fact that even here on R2R a real lps dominant forum(JMO)a lot of fellow hobbyist jumped on the opportunity to show the love they have for sps.Keep the pics coming and lets keep this going.

Oh, and just in case my original post painted me as an SPS hater... far from it

any time Sara! Thanks for the compliment!

Just found this thread. Nice pics for sure. Love those shots SDguy! I can say SPS is my number 1 seller by a long shot. I sell a lot of it and often. I wish I could grow it faster :)

I can say that there are tons of people who come in to buy lps and walk away with sps instead because they want to "try' it then get hooked. SPS just isnt so front page all the time like the crazy chalices and zoas...

I decided to convert one of my freshwater tanks the beginning of this year to an sps tank after coming across my local reefers forum. It's funny I just posted a question on what's up with the chalices and could only conclude it was monetary value. Those things don't even compare to the beauty of sps. I'm hooked and already planning to convert the 240g to an sps tank as the 110 cube just doesn't seem to be enough.

Weclome to the addiction iap! Good to have you! lol

Haha thanks I feel the love. Special tanks to Troylee and KEEPERZ for fueling this sickness.

Welcome to the land of colored sticks iap,I would like to see some pics if you have some:)

This has been a very interesting read. I never got on the chalice band wagon and had mentioned to friends I lost of lot of money doing this as a business. Its is funny that many agree the chalices craze was baised on paramid scemes and greed. Until recently I started collecting watermelons and others for colorthat is hard to replicate in a mixed reef. Honestly I just collected more sticks the last few years that I dont know what to do with. My frags are now mini colonies. Someday I will upgrade my 150 gallon SPS tank to a 200 to 225ish and really let things go wild. I just need a lilttle more time to get things where ups to hmm my standards
