Hi,

Planning to go for my first vacation for 4-5 days after I have setup my reef .Needless to say - am terrified even though I have a very experienced babysitter .
Hence planning for a webcam to keep track of stuffs . Which one do you suggest.

I was thinking about Foscam - FI9831P

Or the dericam :-

My budget is below 100$ as I shall use it only once or twice a year .

Please share your thoughts.

Regards,
Abhishek

I'd buy from Amazon. If you have any issues it'll be easier to exchange or return. I have several cameras and I prefer the foscam R1. If you don't meet pan and tilt then the C1 is an affordable choice and has wider viewing. My derricam mic quit on me after 1.5 yrs :-(

Thanks for the amazing suggestions.
@Anirban - how easy was it setup the Amcrest in wifi ? Wonder how does it render the blue spectrum of the reef tanks?

Its pretty easy to set up and you can use it through cloud access or through their app on your mobile or computer. When its deep blue under LED you will see things glowing in the tank but when its normal blue like 20K spectrum its great. I was using it from other part of the world with crappy internet speed but still working fine. So, I think now you have an idea.

How are you going to connect to it remotely? If you are going to do port forwarding just be mindful if you can access it so can hackers. If your camera isn't a cloud camera you can setup a home VPN to help secure the connection. Also make sure you change passwords and ports if you can. This is from 2014 but people still leave settings as default - http://www.networkworld.com/article...rity-cameras-thanks-to-default-passwords.html

Hi all Are there in WiFi camera experts out there, all of these say they do not support 5 GH networks and that's what my WiFi is and I don't get a great cell phone signal in my house. Was wondering what I should get?

Most routers that support 5Ghz also support 2.4Ghz that I know of.

What wireless router are you using?
