which webcam?

You can always check out a VPN software like OpenVPN https://openvpn.net/. I set up a pfsense box at home and used OpenVPN. This allowed me to access my home network, from my phone and computer. It makes your device look like its on your network. I had the DLink DCS-5009L. It worked fine for me even though I did have small issues with the PTZ controls. I have not done this in awhile (I moved and no longer have my own network so I don't remote into it) but might be working on something soon as I work more and more on my own controller that I am building.

If your not tech savy I suggest a cloud camera. Worst thing you can do is port forward but many people do that as well
I will give this a try it has been a long time but maybe I can get it done lol if not I have a friend that should be able to walk me through it maybe.

Enjoy the vacation looks good man
Oh that's not me. I'm just saying this is exactly what I'd be doing. Ha ha! I wish my vacations (and my reef tank for that matter) looked like that.

I think when I get a house and get my network backup and running I might write a document on how to setup remote access to equipment at home like cameras, controllers, etc... where they maybe limited with cloud options

I have the Amcrest 1080. Quality is great and you can zoom in and the quality stays. Plus the pan and tilt is nice too. Like it but setting up the record feature is a little tricky. I still don't think I have it set up but not that big of a deal just so I can log on to check on everything.

I'm surprised nobody uses a network enabled CCTV system. I bought a cheap hi-res swann system from frys and put four cameras on my tank so I could see whatever I wanted to. It has been great! it's comforting to be able to check it. I also put it on a separate circuit so if a breaker flips for some reason I can still check it.

Just note those off-the-shelf CCTV units are security issues as well. How are you accessing it remotely? Port forward? Cloud? VPN?

Mine are a bit different because I keep mine in my work setting. All of my cameras are on an individual network structure rather than my main network. I do utilize port forwarding but through a barracuda physical firewall.

That's good. Do note those units are known to have hard coded back door accounts. I known many people who ran them on the same network as their point of sale. Now I deal with enterprises CCTV equipment but first thing I do when I get a new camera or server is change the default ports and default passwords. All 400 of my cameras are on a private network as well. I believe we use a barracuda firewall as well but not sure. Also I limited viewing access and use IP filtering. I also know the network administrator runs ACL for our networks.

Tank shot from my cam attached to my power head. :)
