@Randy Holmes-Farley

So I ha dinos for about 2 months. During this time, most people say to abstain from water changes. Having made the mistake of doing a WC, I can tell you, don't do them when fighting dinos...

But in that two months -- Which elements would a typical tank likely run out of?

I know all tanks can / would be different, which is why I'm asking a generality -- This question just popped into my mind today after dosing a little trace elements and lugols.

May I ask what happened when you did the WC with Dino's?

They come back full force overnight. My tank went from spotless to the worst it's ever been in 12 hours.

Some say it's due to the silica in salt mixes -- Either way -- No WC until dino's are LONG gone!

Thank you. May I beg a picture of the Dino. Or do you have a thread?.

how to remove it ? i'm getting dino . it is a nightmare
As a fellow dino victim, good luck. For me a blackout, stopping GFO and vinegar, and dosing phosphate helped. It's 90% gone, only problem is the few remaining likes to attach right near LPS and irritate them. Sucks being helpless to euphilia I've had for years lose heads.

To the OP, not sure what elements would be depleted, but I actually ordered a triton today to look into questions like this and to see if something is imbalanced in general.

Silicate. It's different from silica.
Diatoms are the most common thing with high silicates. And pineapple sponges.
Hey salty i have a ton of pineapple sponges bit no way to test for silicates. Should i be worried. I am dealing with little algae... brown on rocks and reddish on smooth surfaces. Just did a 30% water change and have gfo and phos test kit on the way.
Nitrate 0
Ammonia 0
Ph was 8.2 down to 7.9ish last 2 days
Alk was 13 before water change..down to 9 now
Calcium hung around 380 to 440
Sal 1.025 raising tonight to 1.026
Tds 0 but rodi 6 months old with no new filters.

I wouldn't worry at all. I used to once.

Sponges will feed on the silicate. We know that so why worry. No diatoms but you have sponges? Perfect!!

Folks worry a lot. For no good reason usually.

My po4 is high!!!
Is anything dead?
No.
Ok then!

Thanks. I dont so much worry as have ocd on my glass and water being clear. Probably will be my downfall..lol. thanks for always being available for help.

Yea no worries.
It goes in waves. My tanks are spotless and then it's a wreck. I don't change anything. It just does that. I figure it'll go back to great again soon.

i am using zeovit and have been using cyano clean , biomate with coral snow
I've heard the coral snow is amazing for clear water.

IMO. Stop the cyano clean. It may be too much bacteria killing.

Some folks are using increased nutrints for success. Along with gfo and carbon changes. Some are adding bio diversity in the form of sponges, organics and Fiji mud
Another is Dino x and black out

i have been dosing cyano clean with biomate mixed with coral snow at night and in the morning Zeozym with bak

which one to stop ?
