I know they are harder and harder to find these day's,I want some bad but show me what cha got. I will have to live thru you guys !!!

Acan
what makes "asian" ones more special that indo/aussy ones?

I feel like Asian Acan's colors and patterns are 110% different than any other Acan from other reefs. Check out these @BSA Corals offered a few years ago. I know some high rollers on here have them !!!

Indonesia is part of Asia. I think Asian acans is just another fancy name given to corals to make them seem different from the others. Designer corals if you will. All of the acans I see in Asia come from Indonesia.

If you have seen or have pics of Acan's from Aussie or wherever that have the same patterns and color schemes as 'Asian' ones, please share.

I totally agree with you.... even that thread that was posted all the acans look just like ones that every acan collector has and sells, nothing special in my eyes.

I can share pics of freshly harvested indo ones. Might not be the most clear pics. Someone in my reef club sent awhile back. Living in Asia, I’ve never seen Asian acans marketed. 90% of the acans come from indo and Filipino waters, which to be honest is in the same vicinity of Australia. Further north is where I live and I have never seen acans in my waters.

I kind of have to disagree with you on this. Most "Aussie" Acan's are either red,red/orange,green,rainbow or a dash of pink ect ect. I have NEVER seen a Acan labeled "Aussie" that has the patterns & colors that these coral have.

and you have that right to disagree since its nothing more than opinion....

Please share then,if I am wrong I'm wrong. I have just never seen them.

This is why I am saying they are designer corals. Corals color up differently in different systems. I’m not suggesting they don’t exist. Just in Asia, I don’t see them. Let me dig up pics. Up to you to decide. Give me a few.

I’m not an acan aficionado but pretty sure most of not all come from Australia and Indonesia area. Seems like most LPS as well.

These are all from @BSA Corals threads on here. Once again I have never seen a "Aussie Lord" labeled acan have these colors and patterns

I can definitely agree with you on things can change color in different systems, but idk. I had a previous nano with 30+ different acan frags and don't get me wrong a few did have incredible color changes, but nothig went from a plain red to something like the above I posed. But anything is possible.

Now pleade skmeine post something they have in their tank before this turns into a huge debate lol ;Yuck !!

i think you have it backwards.... they go from looking like those photos to being mostly just red or orange.
at least in my experience..

Some pics from my reef club. All indo wild—harvested. Even though there is a ban, things still come through. In Asia, they have a way of getting around laws. I even theorize that they say “Asian” to get around the indo ban.

That middle picture on your phone looks amazing !!! Wow. Maybe the Acan's I am calling 'Asian' are coming from deeper waters. Maybe BSA can chime in when they see the tags. If I remember correctly,a lot of the Acan's showing the colors I am referring too, were coming from waters like 40-60m if not deeper,so maybe that is the reasoning for the more pastel, and different colors than just reds, oranges and rainbows ?

I am by no means an expert on these. I’ve seen similar ones from the pics you’ve posted. But it’s rare. They come in waves. I’ll see them for a week or two and not again for 3 or 4 months. Corals tend to be cheap here compared to the US but these always fetch a hefty price. But they’re usually good sized colonies.

When these come in, someone in our club will get pics and share. Every time, these are sold as indo acans.

They definitely come in waves,no doubt about that. And they are way more expensive than so labeled Aussie Acan's for sure. Just the colors being more powdery and a wider variety of colors makes me think the collection zone is different than that of Aussie corals.. I feel like the polyps are bigger than other wildly collected Acan's from other reefs also.

I have seen some 'Aussie' Acan's with enormous polyps but only when they are blasted with flow do they get that big. When I added a RW4 to my 7g the polyp sized almost doubled, but they were super tiny to begin with anyways,so they went from a dime to almost a quarter within a few days.

Here are a few pics of part of my old Acan collection
