In my personal experience API at lower level is not very reliable. Could it be possible that your Rodi is still passing chlorine or chloramine? Try changing the kit to red Sea or seachem

I don’t know of it is. But imo it isn’t.

Couple days ago I noticed some problem on my anthias I thought it to be lympho, I started to look closely at it. Yesterday it got deteriorated at night and anthias was having all white slough over her fins she looked weak and was breathing heavily. I started to prepare water for qt tank so that I could transfer it to the qt this morning. Just right now Today at morning I woke up to see my whole tank wiped out. My two wrasses died right in front of my eyes. Anthias was already dead. Firefish and sand sifting goby are still missing. Only survivor is false percula I’ve just now taken it out of tank to qt. Please reefers help.

This solar fairy wrasse had beautiful bright colours it got faded away just like that overnight.

Except anthias all fishes were eating and they did eat last night also.

Parameters are perfect.

This is my tank.

Pls help what happened all of a sudden I’m at a loss. Plus I’m so much depressed, I treated all fishes for a month in qt and still something went in.

The exact same thing happened to me I don’t know what I did but my levels were good and my setup is fine too. What can I do to avoid this

As it has affected all fish I tink in the first place at the new tank syndrome in an established tank. It is caused by losing the support for the carrying capacity, the heterotrophic and or autotrophic ammonia reduction capacity. If organic carbon was dosed for a period of time, reduced the dose suddenly or stopped? Where commercial nitrate removers used during a period of time? Battled algae growth during a period of time? This may be caused without measuring any ammonia in the tank. But in that case, most fish would not have died on the same day as they have different mass en sensitivity, or a too high ammonia level must have been present due to complete loss of the ammonia reduction capacity. There must be something else that has poisoned the tank. A disease outbreak that kills everything in a day, I doubt it?

From what you describe, I suspect Uronema. (does it look like in the pics ?)

If so, I generally with all clowns, anthias and butterflies give them a formalin bath and FW dip prior to introduction to tank. They are very vulnerable to this condition. Something bacterial is happening in tank and may be associated with water quality. What are parameters, type of filteration and maintenance schedule ?

Why the skimmer? How a skimmer may kill fish? So many tanks work fine without a skimmer.

The question was put because I want to exclude or strengthen a thought around oxygen depletion and/or production of hydrogen sulphide during night. If answer - no skimmer - next question - how dense was the coral population and how high NO3 concentration? I do not believe in a pathogen explanation in this case - wrong or right - I do not know

I've seen a few discussions of gram staining and related procedures. If you're interested in diagnosing what kind of bacteria are present in the tank, I think one of our DNA based tests would be much easier and more effective.

The general microbiome test picks up in principle any kind of Bacteria or Archaea in the tank, including the specific pathogens that have been discussed. I also have a mycobacterium-specific test I'm fine tuning for cases where we suspect Mycobacterium are present.

I'd be curious to see whats in the tank, I see bacterial fish pathogens in some tanks but it seems the hobby focuses mostly on eukaryotic parasites instead.
