!!!! WHY OH WHY !!!!

I've always had a FW when growing up. In 2001 me and GF ( which now my wife of 10yrs ) got our first apartment together in 2002 I bought my first 55 gal of my own and started as a FW. In 2003 that wonderful Movie we all now as FINDING NEMO came out. So we went to see it. After coming out of the movies the first thing that came out of my mouth was I'm converting my 55 Gal to a SW Tank. Went out the next day and bought all the stuff that the LFS guy said I needed to start the tank.
With trail and error 14 Yrs later in still in it.
So I would say It's Finding Nemo's fault that I'm in this Wonderful Hobby

Well past 7 years i had all kind of fresh water fish aquariums but I allways wanted to get into salt water but every one told its too expensive and too mutch work so that what was keeping me from getting into saltwater hobby.. I remember every time when i saw mandarin dragonet in some forums that what was driving me crazy .. but there was allways a problem to really get in to all that saltwater thing i live in country where there is maybe max 10 saltwater shops where u can really go and see fish and corals live . So one day me and my wife was driving arround just for fun and i told hey cmon lets go and see thay petshop where they have all those corals and stuff (its like 100km to drive ) so she was up for it the first 5 seconds when i walked in in their saltwater aquarium department I knew this is it this is the thing I remember me and wife was just shouting in that shop come see this , come see this oh have you seen this thing , whats that and so on like 4year old kids when they get exited

so now im arround half a year in this hobby i just love it . Ofc there is still a lot to learn but it just amazes me how u can just go to check your tank and every day finding something new . Its crazy ...

Europe Denmark plenty off freshwater but not saltwater.. and now even the closest Sw shop what was 100km from me is closed down for 2 month , moving to other locations .

Oh I've been to Copenhagen many times.
It wasn't that far though as I'm from Amsterdam.

I live like 2h ride from germany border so sometimes its better just to go buy stuff in germany . More stuff to choose from ..

Why is it that everyone who ever wanted to get in the hobby was told it was either too difficult or too expensive, yet when they actually took the plunge found that if done right could be neither?

Because some people before getting in to it been researching and found out there is alot going on with chemistry and so on all the salt mixing , all the different pests and that what makes them think its hard and scares them aways .. ( thats just my opinion ) and maybe even from my experience

. About the expenses in a way it cost alot to setup SW tank all the equipment is overpriced plenty of tests kits and the invertebrates coost some too . Just my opinion..

First, tbh one of the things I love most about sw hobby is, now don't get me wrong, the pests and I'm not talking about ick or velvet, cause those are parasites and I hate them, I'm talking about all the different kinds of nudibranchs and worms, because even though in a way they are harmful, they are still beautiful in their own way! Second, if you spend right(unlike me, but hey do as I say,not as I do, right?) it could be less expensive imo.

ye true enought all the worms and stuff even know they can kill something or do harm it still is cool in my opinon and if i find something new in my tank i get excited ofc after that follows a lot of research what the heck is that thing and the sometimes u find out its harmless and u are cool with that and sometimes u find out it can harm something the im in state of panic

! ye true but for example ppl say ecotech are the best wavemakers and so on but they coost 300-400$ but in mean while some other brand will cost only 50-100 $ and if u set up a new tank and u just cant afford equipment for 1000-1500$ u start with some cheaper staff and then upgrade later. Ofc its waste of money but sometimes u have to do like that . that why ppl think that its expensive ! And ofc all the media what you have to run and ro/di and so on it cost something to .. most of the ppl started with fresh water and maybe they want to move to SaltWater and they maybe expect that it will cost just a little bit more that FW but when they do research and see all thouse prices that scares some people away..

My parents had a sea food market so I grew up in the store playing with dead fish. Occasionally when my Dad took me to the Fulton Fish Market in Manhattan I would find something still alive as they were dumping the fish on to the street from the fishing boats. We would bring it home and put it in the sink. Of course we had no salt water so they didn't last long. I had fresh water fish since I was about 3. That was in the fifties. (Yes the world is that old). I have had a fish tank continuously ever since and have never lived a day without one.
Salt water fish were imported to Manhattan in 1971, that's the week I got them

So my adventure started along time ago when wat hing tv and seeing comercials for tanked at this time i figured it would be interesting to watch so hey. Then i got hooked on the tank and the full deal and found mr.saltwatertank on youtube. Still at this point i was a broke kid. (Still broke lol) anyway i have an uncle that had been in the hobby for a while but got rid of all his stuff and just took care of other peoples tanks as a business and was quite successful. So my first tank came from him very shortly after my divorce. He sold me 2 30 gal. Breeder tanks one we made into a sump/refugium he then showed me how to plumb and told me to get test kits and read up. The tank thrived but soon it bacame too SMALL. Again "Hey uncle i need a bigger tank." 150 here i go. And so on. After 150 did 210...

Here is where i became overwhelmed almost gave up.
Instead used an old 50 short diy sump and cleaned it up and hooked all the filtration from 210 to it and things are going amazing.

Then my husband started to get interested and transitioned to planted freshwater. Then a planted 120g Discus tank made it in, and converted 55g to Cichlids. Son bought a 29g barb tank for his room. Next my husbands discus started laying eggs. So he bought a 37gal tall tank to attempt to raise the discus (after many failed attempts gave up) My husband started hinting at saltwater. I said a big fat NO! I was in nursing school, he travels for his job NO to much work. Fast forward another year and I graduated and found a great job (aka extra money). Took a trip to Shedd aquarium in Chicago. Driving home I told my husband he could start a tank for Christmas. (He still says I lost my mind) Needless to say the 37g tank went up less then a week later on Nov 6. He is already trying to figure out how we can fit another big tank in (He wants tangs). We have no room left!!! So now he wants to build a "retirement" home that is larger than our current home to build a fish tank "room/basement" Have to put the kids through college first though.

LOL reading this a year later and the big salt tank I said no to is on order. Custom tank arriving in January. 180g 48x36x24 Peninsula style tank is going to be room divider between living room and dining room. Had to get rid of a book shelve and rearrange furniture but I'm excited

Sounds good !! I’d love too get a peninsula tank .. good thing is so would the girlfriend !!!
Are You gonna go with a floating reef ... ?? That’s my dream !!
