Will this turn my corals orange?

I have heard that some LEDs tend to turn some green corals to orange/red. I watched Dana's 2018 MACNA talk on the subject, so I'm pretty sure it's true, but having zero knowledge of what a micromol is, I need a little help deciphering whether this spectrum is likely to have that effect.

It is not a literal thing, they do not physically change. Under certain spectrums the color that reflects back, the one you see is more orange.

I was told that these corals changed over time. Maybe it wasn't the lights?

Maybe, I haven’t heard of that. In my own experience, my lighting starts out in the blues, goes thru a daylight period, then to deep blues at night. So I watch my green corals go from orange to green to orange throughout the day.

Yeah, definitely on a budget. Those look interesting. What OS is the app for? Have you tried putting pink fish under them? Sounds like an odd question but my dream fish is the Bartlett's Anthias, so...

OK, I looked at some videos and while the noopsyche certainly puts out enough, there's way too much shimmer for my eye. Tried something like that before, instant headache. Thanks for the recommendation, though!

On a side note, that helps explain why you almost never see the color of tank corals out in the wild (though I imagine a lot of the cooler ones are getting collected.)

you can make your own diffuser to eliminate that

I used to run heavy blue with LED and was able to turn a rainbow lord almost completely orange in about a years time... Switched to straight T5 last few months and its color is coming back.

Thanks, yeah, that's more what I'm talking about. Maybe there's such a thing as too blue? Nice to know you can get the coloration back if you switch lights, though.

How to get orange flouresence to really pop?

I bought an orange coral that looked great at the fish store, but the moment I put it under my tank lights, it just seemed more of a brown color with slight orange tint to it. Is there a particular nm led that helps push that vibrant orange? Or a combination of particular leds? Thanks

Well you would have to get creative, but you could use a frosted mylar or plex and come up with some sort of bracket to hold it to the light without restricting the airflow.

Nope. For me I started it under MH switched to led for a year and during the coarse it turned full orange with a little green.. I found Dana Riddle article some time back and decided to put my t5's on and the orange is fading away back to what might be original colors. There is other people on this forum that found the same mostly with lords. Few brain corals I have, have not changed colors under different lighting types.

Hm. Acans are one of the big ones I've wanted to keep. I do notice that WWC uses Orpheks...maybe those would work?
