Your most extreme impulse purchase

Royal Exclusiv sump..i saved up for 3 years.

Now that’s quite the purchase! Got any pics?
Not yet it is due to ship in 2 weeks i will stsrt a build thread once it and my custom aqyariums tank arrives... super excited untill then

My 16 gallon and my 75.
thought about getting a tank walked into a store and walked out with everything to set up my 16gallon.
Then searching on face book saw a 75 flat back hex (with everything) and yup bought it.

oh and every coral in my tank

Im surprised most people havent mentioned corals lol although i am really thinking of getting a GHL controller and ION director i jist dont see myself spending that kind of money. Same reason why i still test everything manually.

I can't believe no one has commented on the shark rug! It's awesome! YEAH!

So many impulse buys with coral at LFS's or from posts on my local reef club lol, my most extreme one would be getting a good deal on a war paint scoly and pulling the trigger on it even though I hate spending $100+ on a single coral

I would have to say it was my sump. As a new reefer, I got so fed up with the trickle filter monstrosity I had been fighting that one day I spent about 5 minutes searching for the biggest sump I could fit under the tank, and pulled the trigger (Trigger systems sump). Best knee jerk reaction I ever had. :)

The original 36Bow system that got me started on all this. Mostly the wife's idea that I just went along with! Now I'm more the reefing nut than she is.
I generally don't spend big bugs on livestock items, so no crazy expensive fish or coral. Most equipment starts as an idea and bounces around in my brain for weeks before purchasing.

Hello everyone...I'm new to the reefing scene but have found it to be very addicting. That being said it seems one impulse buy leads to another for me. Started with a RedSea e260 3 months ago(Impulse buy #1). Then I found a CTC custom 175 gallon euro braced aquarium that I drove over 800 miles to get(Impulse buy#2). Ordered a Synergy Reef sump to go with it (Impulse buy #3). Now in the planning stages of installing a fish room in the garage. Sump is supposed to ship next week so hopefully I will be able to start a build tread soon. More impulse buys to come. Happy reefing everyone !!!

Welcome!! I think a lot of us are serial builders in that we enjoy planning out the build and designing everything more than the tank itself lol

I purchased a huge tank for what I thought was a dirt cheap price. guy said it had a small leak that just needed some quick silicone. he got me and turns out I would need to basicly reseal the entire tank as it leaked in multiple locations. so now it sits in my backyard where I eventually maybe will incorporate it into an outdoor pond or something where I dont have to worry about it leaking. 200 gallons is not something I want to chance in the house but all the other equipment I got with it made the deal worth it still

The past few days I’ve been thinking about just pulling the trigger on an Apex and getting it over with. I don’t need one but I do miss having one and I’d eventually like a Trident. Also thought about a time a customer came in looking for a halide bulb and I ended up selling him an $800 lighting setup.

What has been your most extreme impulse purchase and are you glad you did it?
For my tank? A used APEXEL. I too didn't need it but found a decent deal in my town so.....otherwise? A new car. On a whim LOL.
