I'm vegaterian, I don't eat any form of meat. And yet every time that you go to eat fish or shrimp etc ... you are very likely eating wild caught stuff.
When I was in the Philippines I had a friend that would buy fish from the fisherman's nets for a few pesos, for his aquarium. In the west we are insulated from the realities of the things that we eat. I have a vegan friend from Mexico and she chuckles when a new vegan comes on the boards where she is at and thinks that the meat industry is going to shut down now that the person has gone vegan.
Puppy mills exist. Evil is present in this world, curiously no amount of efforts seem to be able to stamp it out. Sadly those efforts often become the evil that they are so desperately trying to stop.
Do what you think is right. Don't worry about what others are doing and try to be the change you want. I think that is a far better perscription for making things better than trying to feel better by small outward acts that will utimately be used for evil.
Even more carbon 14 is put into the air from wild caught fish, think about the boat that would have to carry the fish, catching fish causes lots of pollution.are you implying that purchasing "wild caught" means an individual "doesnt care about the environment"?
correlation does not equal causation, you're making a blanket statement and extrapolating data you have no way of quantifying.
you think simply because something is captive bred it's "better" for the environment? Have you factored in carbon footprint of the operation producing these captive bred animals. Pollution. Transport. Chemical run off. Facility square footage taking up land etc. Define "care about the environment"...
From the pollWhere did you get this number?
And your right, I should just do what I thinks right. And yet every time that you go to eat fish or shrimp etc ... you are very likely eating wild caught stuff.

there is not a thumbs down emoji83% of reefers dont care about the environment
I can almost guarntee that there is some form of animal product in your food. Unless you grow and cook it yourself you will probably being eating some form of animal.I'm vegaterian, I don't eat any form of meat.
As with everything, there are economic consequences to banning fish from being wild caught, and those need a solution. Also farming fish can be wildly unsustainable and present its own environmental challenges. I wish it was all as simple as stopping aquarists from being able to purchase wild-caught fish.Even more carbon 14 is put into the air from wild caught fish, think about the boat that would have to carry the fish, catching fish causes lots of pollution.
This makes you look even weaker. The first rule of holes is to put down the shovel.Even more carbon 14 is put into the air from wild caught fish, think about the boat that would have to carry the fish, catching fish causes lots of pollution.
Is your car electric? Do you recycle rain water for all your water needs in your home? Is your house fully powered only by solar panels?Even more carbon 14 is put into the air from wild caught fish, think about the boat that would have to carry the fish, catching fish causes lots of pollution.

Please don't do this.Is your car electric? Do you recycle rain water for all your water needs in your home? Is your house fully powered only by solar panels?
I said that because you were talking about how I might eat fish every day.I can almost guarntee that there is some form of animal product in your food. Unless you grow and cook it yourself you will probably being eating some form of animal.
I don't know why you made this post.
If it is a virtue signal then that says more about you than the people you are trying to throw under the bus. If you are worried about animal welfare then get rid of all your pets and quietly live out your life.
I don't get this need to tell the world how sanctimonious one is. It doesn't come across well.
And that’s cool. I’m not bashing people that are vegetarian or that have electric cars and such. But your not on here trying to be the one true savior. You can’t bash people for one thing when your not living it 100% yourself. Please don't do this.
I live in a rural TX city. I recycle rain water for my top off. I wished I could afford a electric car that couldn't be shut off at the whims of an autocrate. I would love to see small shops that make custom electric cars. I am planning to move to land and I hope to have solar and wind powered home. Because I saw what happened when some truckers offended their government.
Life is nuanced. Painting with a broad brush often has very unintended consquences.
EDIT: I am also vegetarian (not vegan).
?? I don’t need this type of lecture, I stated in my original answer to this thread that all my fish save for my tailspot blenny were tank raised. I just spent a fortune to get three tiny little nano gobies direct from Biota over a wild-caught assessor at my LFS.This is true. However there is nothing stopping new hobbyists, or inexperienced hobbyists, or hobbyists who don't care, from buying animals they shouldn't be purchasing. We can all look at posts here and on other social media platforms whereas someone asks a question about care or requirements "after" the purchase. Search of flame scallop for just one example.
Our hobby has no checks or balances or litmus test showing we can care for animals that are available today. And thus the government(s) taking the ball into their own hands since we can't seem to agree on our own. Ban everything. If we don't want the global ban then we collectively need to do something.
And that is supporting captive raised and bred first and foremost no matter what the price is. Only buy aquaculture corals. Then we can work through the change aspect and get our house in order before the house of cards tumbles down on us.
1. I'm not legally allowed to drive a car.Is your car electric? Do you recycle rain water for all your water needs in your home? Is your house fully powered only by solar panels?
There is your avatar.I said that because you were talking about how I might eat fish every day.
