Wow, your corals are POPPING!!! Well done on getting the tank to this stage. Are these corals under the halide or the Radion tank? Also do you have same frags in each tank and if so, how is the colour difference?

Can you also confirm if the above photos were from the Envision tank with the Radium and VHO's, whether the photo is taken in VHO only or full daylight?

Reason for the questions is I am sort of comparing my tank to yours; I just cannot get those colours from my corals...some do come close...but a lot are brownish etc. My tank was reset around a year ago, so I expect better colours from my corals.

Hi Sahin! Hope all is well man. I was going to look you up when I was in London a few weeks ago but it was such a quick trip that I didn't think it would work out.

Anyway, yes the pictures you quoted above (and all pictures in post #618 & 619) were all under the Envision -- Radium + VHO SuperActinic -- full spectrum and there wasn't any modification needed to temperature balance after setting my camera to "10000k" WB. Don't get me wrong, I have some corals that aren't looking all that great too. A prime example is the pearlberry, which just doesn't seem to be recovering after my fallout in July and has some burnt tips, is browned out with green polyps and has some minor base recession.

I do have some duplicates of corals to compare the LEDs vs. the Halide/VHOs. It's a mixed bag when it comes to SPS. The birdsnests (ORA Green & Ponape) look better under the LEDs. I've tried a few deepwaters under the LEDs and the only one that looks the same is the Yellow Caroliniana, which looks great in both tanks -- almost no difference. There isn't a difference between the Tyree Setosa or the Tyree Meteor Shower under LEDs or the Halides -- both look great. The pearlberry looks bad in both tanks so I'm chalking it up to not liking the parameters or some chemical thing going on. Then, there are others that I have moved back and forth to see what light it likes best. I've almost lost several corals under the LEDs and they're now making a comeback under the Halides. Overall, I'd say that SPS growth and color is better under the halides. HOWEVER, that's not true for LPS, which--in almost every case--look and grow better under the LEDs. The LED pics start in post #620, btw. I haven't taken top-downs in the Envision with just the VHOs.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. You should really feel proud of your tank: the colours of the corals you posted are pretty awesome to say the least. Your experience with the two types of lighting technologies is pretty much the same as most others.

Thanks for the great compliments. I am very happy with the coloration and growth I'm getting out of most of the corals. Part of reef-keeping, I suppose, is finding what works in your tank and just trying to make the most beautiful tank you can with those corals. I struggle with millies while deepwaters seem to do very well -- so I'm focusing on creating a deepwater/smooth skin acro area that will hopefully be very beautiful when it grows out. The other part of reef-keeping, is patience, which is very hard for me sometimes!
