$1000.00 for a frag really?

Walk into a jewelry store. Go to the diamond section. Find a diamond the size a pea (probably smaller). Ask the clerk for the price.

If you say this is different you are wrong. A diamond is just a piece of carbon buried in the earth. As a piece of jewelry it has absolutely no benefit to anyone other than its BEAUTY.

Same thing you pay for in coral. At least a 1000 frag is going to keep growing. Your wives would think you were crazy not to buy a diamond the kept getting bigger.
Exactly Rich, nice analogy!!

Take that same diamond ring you paid 10K for back to the jeweler say after a divorce and get offered $500.00 for it. No mark up there???

Some people have more money than sense. And children starve in our world still, just imagine how many could be fed with a $1000.00 coral booger.

This has to be the silliest thing I've read today. Why even have a reef tank??? Or anything other than the bare necessities to survive? Shouldn't all your money be going to feed the world's hungry?

Go hug a tree and give me a break. Sheesh..

Epic!!

Thats the beauty of living in this country if you can buy it you will or not.

Wayne lol... First time i see you get irritated lololol. Now go feed your $2500 tamerin wrasse and $3500 gem tang.

lol...it does irritate me. It doesn't bother me if people think it's wasting money. I mean my immigrant parents think any hobby is wasting money. 'All extra money should be used to make more money!' they say.

But when someone is going to get up on their hypocritical high horse and judge me on how I spend my own hard earned money when they should in fact be doing some self reflection, yeah that irritates me a little bit.

In fact I'm going to start a thread titled 'Why I love to buy $1000 buggar sized frags and fish'. So all you haters go break out your Double Big Gulp cups and refill it at the 7-11 with your Haterade because it's going to be a long ride!

A coral is only worth what some one is willing to pay for it......and some are willing.
I am sure there are a lot of levels of hobbyist pay scale . What 1000 $ to you or me might not be to someone else hobby $$
I have to admit I have had a few weak moments and spent that much because I can and I wanted something that no everyone has.
Just like in the Jason Fox live sale this weekend . I know a reefer that spent way over 3000 just for fun.i am sure there were a lot more that spent that much too.
I would much rather purchase from a sponsor or reputable vendor so I really get what I pay for

Did we just become best friends? I think so! Lol

Mike I dont even wanna know how much you have in your tank....

I guess my original question should have been are $1000.00 frags really worth it. I dont want people arguing it was just a question.

Man richie u hit that on the head, If i could buy my wife a small rock and tell her in a couple of years if she cared for it and maintained her finger that I would grow 5 to 10 times the size and she would b able to cut smaller diamonds off it and resell it for the same cost. That sounds like a no brainier..

Worth is a personal opinion. There is nothing in this hobby worth $1k or even $500 in my opinion. Spending that money on my kids and wife brings me much more enjoyment. So I'll never have the latest and greatest fad coral or obscure fish....I don't care. I also don't begrudge people who DO feel its worth it either. Life is too short to not live it on your own terms.

1,000$ for some of the rarest chalices on the planet that have color like no other piece? And they grow and you can frag them
And make money back. Depends on how much money your pullin in. Some of the rainbow chalices are worth it. If they were 20$ everyone would have one but guess what.... They rare !!! Grow whatever makes you happy don't hate on the real collectors.

Oh believe me. Whatever I'm spending on my hobbies pales in comparison to what is spent on my wife and kids. We all live (or try at least) within our means. It's just everyone has a different scale.

Go Rabens!!!

Some Corals are better investments than Gold. What other resource grows and.is.renewable and.in your complete control. The Stock Market you have to.hope some else does their job well.....I can do my job well.
