A sad day for ReefQueen

All I did was turn the lights out for 5 days and problem solved for me anyway. It was in a 125 softy tank

I battled a small infestation of dinos in my tank. Blackouts and reduced nutrients did nothing. I ran a good UV sterilizer in addition to adding lots of pods and phyto to the tank. I believe the pods and phyto begins to out compete the dinos for nutrients, and thus restores the balance of microfauna in the tank.

Chemi-Clean killed all my alage but some green long hair, it wiped out my read slime and dynos. Just make sure you run an air stone

After talking more with @twilliard it appears you guys were right and I do not have dinos, whew! I was so sure, but in this case i am glad i was wrong:) Since photos are unable to provide a positive ID I will be sending him samples to play with, I have a feeling this is going to be a fun one:) So for the time being I will not be doing the blackout or dosing h2o2, at least until we can figure this thing out! I am glad I don't have to worry about my fish and nems for a few days at least! Thank you everyone for the tips and positive thoughts, I will keep you all updated.

try vodka dosing.

Grey goose, Ice and twist of lime and 7 up.

don't forget amazon rental, it works exactly like this

order 300xx sterilizer, install it on a perfectly clean system, blackout for 3 days and send the unit back less 15% stocking fee (check your seller) within a month. The reason I have no problem recommending amarental is because the neotherm I just got from them was open, someone elses weekend rental, and it works fine lol. play the game. if it works fantastic, you'll keep, heart of the amarental program. whatever you buy, do not buy the correct sized model for your tank. buy the largest most expensive one you are willing to use to win, if that means taking a chance on it not being strong enough and using a correctly sized model, then give it a try and you have a smaller chance of it working. Use a pond sterilizer if you want to win and not play around, it will be bulky but temporary, this doesn't have to be ran constantly its to win something

remove target from a tank via zapping, then go back to normal workings is the heart of using UV as a tool for pelagic invaders.

NO JUST NO... your product RENTAL costs us all in the long run.. What makes you think you can do something like this just because you can.. Have you no moral compass? No integrity? Any pride at all...
Do you want to live in a no return policy world?
Do you not understand that the retailer will make their money whether you pay now,, or ALL of us pay later?
Walk in the retailers shoes.. How would you react to a customer such as yourself?
Treat others the way you want to be treated is NOT just a fancy saying...

So...back to curing tanks as stated...if you want to support your lfs, don't buy from Amazon. The level of hype cannot be overstated, I've been buying on Amazon since about 1999 lol not a thing you have said occurred. The prices follow retail trends and typical online pricing algorithms and nothing else. I hardly return, but can, whenever

I elect for Amazon due to not paying sales tax, quick shipping, and a no hassle return policy, same exact basis for recommending business to them. I'm supporting Amazon, not harming them per your take. The ability for her to try an expensive uv before hard purchase is solely, exactly and exclusively the reason to use Amazon, as stated.

I had one experience with Dinos. Did the blackout, increased carbon and alkalinity per my go to resource. My blackout was longer than 3 days but thankfully everything survived and I held off doing a water change right away. Good luck Dinos are nasty.

Buying with the intention of returning after use is a form of return fraud (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_fraud). Amazon is very lenient with their return policy but what you are doing is abusing it, and there have been cases where amazon has banned buyers for this: http://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/banned-returning-too-many-amazon-products/3254628.html

I didn't send back my heater that was used. And if the uv works, she may keep. Or she may not

The recommend came from having the option to return if it doesn't work, within the stated timeframes and that's fully legal.

Some people send back a uv, some keep, hopefully you are taking close inventory of the process to help someone along the way but she can access a uv quite easily exactly as stated. It's ideal if you were that resourceful about fixing up this tank invasion, post tank work links to hop back on track if possible

The option to return and exercising that is not against policy. I own and don't plan on returning someone's rental heater as we speak. Ygot a bit worked up

Lol you must have missed two critical parts on that soapbox 03864 heh, no three, no four:
- I buy people's rentals all the time
-nobody sends back an item that works...if they do, Amazon has a policy for that I believe it's called a standard Amazon return policy. In the comments section, just input '27 day cyano or spirulina course, now don't need' and in sixteen years, your return choices still won't matter.
-no your prices don't change that's hype. They change based on how many times you view an item (profit algorithm for Amazon has nothing to do with returns)
- the return system is made for exactly that purpose. Send back something that doesn't wow you, or send back something because the moon is blue

Justify it however you like.. fact is you are abusing it at others cost.. You are shortsighted if you dont think so.. If your such a great amazon customer,, pm me your real name we will see.. or post it here ... maybe attach it to your original instructional post and forward it to Amazon..

Your feelings seem a little extreme anger/ this is clear.
the word crime below was a nice touch and didn't strike me as embellishment.

None of the links given show the return of a uv sterilizer as an offense nor a pattern it was small potatoes for me

probably put a cage around your powerhead incase the hem moves around
make one out of egg crate or something

This is not a place for arguing differences of business morals. Please take it to PM.
I also dont think it is a place to give out information on how to commit a crime.... and bet there is some stipulation that says so.. Nuff said.. many will see and few will find it appropriate to turn the forum into a criminal advice guide..

Guys could we please keep the arguing to a minimum:) I am all for everyone having their own opinions, but please pm each other if you want to do that. For the record I do not plan to buy anything, use it until I am done with it, then return it. For one, I like to keep things handy, and I am also much too lazy to deal with shipping lol.

Sounds good :) it's fair to say fifty readers want you to beat this invader lol
Thank you:) I hope I can too! I have done a bit more reading and think another possibility is calothix (I think that's how it's spelled) but I will wait for the results to come back before starting anything new. For the time being everyone seems happy to see again and I found what i am hoping is another new (very angry) baby rock nem while collecting samples:)
