A sad day for ReefQueen

God not another thing I have to worry about , I'm new to the hobby and the more I learn about this the harder it seems lol but good luck with fixing the problem

I agree and thanks I'm mad it took me so long to do this I first seen a reef aquarium when I was 12 I'm 37 now and just starting so it's going to be fun lol

Hey ReefQueen,
Someone may have already mentioned this, but I was able to quickly eradicate a stubborn dinoflagellate infestation in my 90 gallon mixed tank about 6 years ago by doing a night time Kalkwasser drip to raise the pH. Dinos can't handle high pH and this worked like a charm at least in my case. Give it a shot.

Carbon dosing would be a good way to increase the bacterial population and is a great idea. But I would lean more towards using vinegar because from much reading, a lot of people have experienced Cyano from dosing vodka. Just make sure your skimmer is maintained during dosing.
This method of Vodka dosing I am recommending requires special attention to certain environmental factors. Kids should be in bed, friends should be present, Ginger ale should be close at hand as it provides a little extra bite and has nicer bubbles.

The goal of this method is to lighten moods, lessen worry and provide some level of comfort to the reef keeper as the sit an wait PATIENTLY>:)

Wow. Has you tried this method and it worked for you. Thanks for the suggestion. Heard ginger was good but never tried ginger ale. Guess the bubbles will increase ORP while the sugar would be a carbon source.

When he tries that method he begins pming me long reminiscing posts about the old days that were good and there's sad classic country songs playing in the background I'm assuming like Waylon and Hank SR. This method is debatable it has different effects on different people.

I myself just make long posts.

Yes, I try it at every Bar B Q!
And keep it away from the Reef tank it'll kill it. ,
And children. 21 and older state federal and local laws apply:).

Haha I like the way you dose! The samples are on their way, so I have nothing to do but patiently wait:)

Oh believe me, I am in no way deterred. In fact it is the opposite, I want to kick this invaders butt! As nice as it is to sit and stare at a pristine tank, if things like this didn't happen every once in a while, then we would all be bored after a few years lol.

If you say it is slime it could possibly be voc which is volitale organic compounds caused from the use of aerasols in the room of the tank. My wife had a air freshener and now I'm dosing waste away. I just started but is supposed to work. You can google it.

Well don't use aerosol here, I use wax melters if I want to add a scent to the air(and I haven't turned it on in a few weeks) but anything is a possibility:)

I just beat dinoflagellates a few months ago. I can assist.

I know you were all as excited as I was to hear @twilliard results. Well they are in! I don't have dinos thank goodness! Just some funky algae that I am going to be getting very aggressive with today. Thanks everyone for the help and support!

I've never heard of funky algae. I imagine multicolor hair algae, organized in tiny 'fros across rock and sand.

Instead of a blackout, maybe a disco out will make it go away. [emoji23]

Hahaha that's hilarious! I'll give it a try and let you know the results lol
