Adding a Freshwater Forum to R2R?

How would you feel about a freshwater section being added to R2R?

Well the reason some people may be posting in the reef section Right now is because there is no freshwater section to post in. Instead of it being a sub forum it could be a well I don’t know what to call it but basically picture this.

idea 1:

type in reef2reef. Takes you to a page thatis split into two choices: freshwater and reef
You click which one you want to go to and you go there. No interfering with the other forum at all.
Idea 2:

type in reef2reef. Takes you to the normal home page. Normally, what we do now is click on forums and then it takesyou to a list of sub forums. Instead, next to the word forums there is a separate option for freshwater forums. If it gets too messy I’d volunteer to be a part time mod.
For example - how do you integrate 'new posts', the posts on the sidebar, the new threads, etc etc. Seems like to get the same 'functionality' of R2R you would need to just design a new site. BTW - there is already a section to discuss non-reef tanks (ie. the Lounge). Additionally, the poll is a bit skewed - because' I think it would be cool' - (almost voted that way) - but I think it would detract rather than enhance 'reef2reef' so I voted 'no'.

*hey quick note*
If you are reading this thread leave your comment down below and vote trying to get as many people as i can

So I’ve been thinking about this for a while:
Most people who have a reef tank (not all) have or at one point n their life have had a freshwater tank. I actually only have a freshwater tank now because my reef died over the summer. ANyways so I talked to @revhtree and he said maybe so i just wanted to see if anyone else would want this. R2r is a friendlier place than other forums so that’s why i though of this. Please vote below or above wherever it shows up.
Thanks
I've asked for NPS Coral Forum nothing yet. Let me know how it works out. I voted yes.

Forgot my signature photos, ,1 of 27 carnation corals, dendronephthya sp.

Ok so if everything was fine and separated would the people who voted no be ok with it?

Bottom line, I dont think in the end voting or anything else will change peoples minds. If site owners decide they can make more $ from fresh water, they will go that way, even if people say no. It's a business after all.
I'm just a mod, but also a lonnng time member and I for one am sad to see this comment. :(
Does R2R really come across as a place that puts ad revenue ahead of it's members?

FWIW, I'm one of the instigators for this, mainly because I put my fw build thread in the current sw build thread forum, because I wanted to share with my reef friends. That's all. No ulterior motives.

Taco Bell hamburgers, Burger King tacos? This is a specialty forum. I purposely stayed away from convoluted forums when doing my research on my reefs because it’s hard to be a jack of all trades and master of none. It’s not bias, it’s practicality. A separate fresh water only Forum run in the same manner as this excellent forum would be of much better service and credibility than trying to mish mash both together.

I voted no as its two different worlds, although I got to marine/reef keeping by the way of freshwater tanks. So a small sub forum I dont see much of a proplem with that.

Im not going to read all the posts, some are just too Salty :D . I guess SW people work harder, spend harder and are proud of their accomplishments.
I dont see a problem with a forum on members other Interests, Woodworking, Cars, dogs, pets and a very popular BBQ thread are always a fun distraction from all things REEF. A freshwater and planted tank forum would be a natural addition for the 75% of us that started there. All out Fresh belongs in its own site for biz purposes.
But that dont mean we cant flip back and forth like DD and LA used to :(
OOPS! DFS & LA

FWIW Taco bell had a "burger" The Bell Beefer until the 90s and Burger King does have Tacos.

Wow so looks like the poll is still pretty equal with “no” winning by 2% now

There is no bias towards FW people, and we are plenty open minded about things. Issue is that R2R is quickly becoming messy with so many sub forums, information and threads being posted wherever.
Maybe if there were some Freshwater sponsors then we could get this subforum made. I mean honestly the sponsor posts are more "distracting" than any other subforums.

The whole a " freshwater forum " will just add to the confusion... it's like... I mean how many subforums already exist? Seriously... a new sub forum would be a drop in a bucket. So that whole argument is just destroyed right there by comparing the current forum ecosystem to the theoretical one with a single additional subforum.

It wouldn’t be a sub forum it would be like an actual pick forum that shows up before you are taken to the forums page

Not to sound stupid, what's the effective difference?
I mean I guess’s what I’m trying to say is that it wouldn’t get mixed up with all the reefing stuff. I think there shouldn’t be too many sub forums in it either just like a general discussion, build thread, and maybe and emergency or maybe the emergency could just be one for th e reef and fresh. I think we should also narrow down the number of Forums for reefing honestly there are ways too many.

IMO, keep R2R as is & if somebody would like to build a site specifically for freshwater that would be great, as I like both. Separate, but equal

I agree with you. This site is easy to use. This site is not confusing. Adding another sub forum would not make it confusing. I think many people in the saltwater hobby look down on freshwater.
