Anyone have HR nitrite checker

The hanna ULR nitrite checker (just ordered and arrived today) is blinking 200ppb

the hanna HR nitrite checker is reading 18ppm

think im going to do x2 50% water changes today get nitrite down

Note - the Hanna ULR Marine Nitrite checker give the answer in ppb NO2-N. It means that you should multiply with 3,29 and divide with 1000 in order to get ppm. If you read 100 ppb NO2-N - it means that it is 100*3,29/1000 -> 0.329 ppm NO2. 200 ppb NO2-N (max detection level) is 0.658 ppm NO3

I have used this ULR NO2-N checker and compared with professional analyzes and it is rather good as a tool even if the accuracy is as low as ± 0,0329 ppm. In my comparisons - my results have been within these values by a good margin.

what do i do for the high range 1 do i divide by 3.29 ? if i did divide the HR 1 my results would make alot more sense

High range says it's 8ppm nitrite currently

I usually just use api tests for cycling

I mostly wouldn't bother with nitrite testing, even when cycling, unless you have a specific reason to want to monitor it.

The instrument displays the nitrite (NO–2) concentration in ppm. To convert the displayed concentration to nitrate-nitrogen(NO–2-N) divide the reading by 3.29. To convert the displayed concentration to sodium nitrite(NaNO2) multiply the reading by 1.5. The checker automatically turns off 2 minutes after reading.

but i don't understand how has my ammonia went down 0.1ppm but my nitrite has went up 2ppm and is now 8ppm

The couple times I cycled a tank, I would look for my nitrites to test 0(that nice aqua blue with api) then I knew I was good.

I mean obviously I was checking ammonia too but I felt good about it when nitrites were doneski

0.1 ppm ammonia totally converted to nitrite is 0.26 ppm NO²¯ (0.1 ppm NH⁴ = 0.1*14/18 NH⁴-N = 0.078 NH⁴-N -- 0.078 NO²¯-N =0.078*46/14 NO²¯ = 0.26 ppm NO2

the hanna HR nitrite checker is for fresh water that would make ALOT of sense yes the ammonia checker is for marine HL784

well im my aquarium 0.1ppm ammonia = 2ppm nitrite going by the tests
 
Trying to get exact answers from test kits can be like getting blood from a stone. Trying to match up different tests like you are is especially difficult.

In this context, the best advice I can give is to focus on ammonia and seeing it drop from a few ppm to very little.

If that happens, nothing else matters, not even the exact ammonia levels.
 
do i diluted 1ml tank water with 9ml fresh salt water got 158ppb x 10 = 1580 x 3.29 = 5198 divided by 1000 = 5.1982 nitrite still crazy high saying as my tank is not converting that much ammonia
