I'm dealing with ich right now. I have a wrasse that was near doa floating upside down when he was delivered to me. I managed to revive it and it has never showed a sign of ich. I put an angel fish in the tank and it got ich a few days later. Wrasse is still fine. Treated the tank with ich x and seemed to be better. Got another order of fish in and a small wrasse came in sick with what looked like uronemea or a bacterial infection. Killed everything except for the wrasse again. Just bought a new angel and a few days later it has ich. Wrasse is still fine. I don't get it. Now I've got the angel out and still trying to catch the wrasse. I'm trying to qt and treat them now. I'm no stranger to fish and this has just been the most ridiculous run of frustration.

I think UV is killing the floating stage of ich. Quarantine inverts and anything wet is a must. Hopefully we get funding from somewhere where they do research on ich.

And in the future a medicine is developed to wipe out ich with just a single dose of 5ml in your tank .

That is true, but the big UV has been off for 6-7 months and no noticeable change. I also wonder because I added a powder blue, that predictably got spots, but they went away. In the past my Powder Blue always had spots. (Had to rehome him because he went nuts.)

I'm in favor of eradication. Back in the day I did the plop and pray method but disease is far to prevalent these days so fish all go thru TTM or 30 days of copper followed by observation. Corals get dipped and de-plugged if possible followed by observation and another dip before going in the DT.

i had a very small regal tang in the tank, and once he reached a certain size the powder blue took an extreme dislike to him so one had to go.

I want to add that I used to too. When I upgraded to a 220 gallon my UV didn’t upgrade either. The ich became infested, and I believe uv works ever since ..

I think I will call it immunity. If it is in your tank and your fish never get it for their entire lifespan which could be 10, 20 or 30 years then they are immune.

If it is in your tank, your fish have it. They don't just "get it".

Yes of course they have it. I want them to have it as they all have it in the sea. But remember, in the sea just like in an immune tank, the fish don't care because those parasites won't hurt the fish. If they did, my tank and all immune tanks would not exist.

That is the reason there are no old, healthy quarantined tanks. Old is not 10 or 15 years. Think about that.
But in any case, Have a great Christmas no matter what you think about parasites.

After 2 days transferring back into tank from 45 day Fallow, I observed my black clown with 2 white spots.

I am now Managing ich. Will not go fallow again .

I have a few fish in quarantine right now. I’m scratching my head now because they will just go into a tank with ich already.

On another note my Aqua UV sterilizer will be put up tomorrow with new 57watt bulb.

That's my infamous Paddlefin Wrasse. Beautiful indeed but it has killed my firefish and one blackcap basslett.

I have a few fish in quarantine right now. I’m scratching my head now because they will just go into a tank with ich already.

So you removed all fish from dt to qt tank and treated with copper for 30 days and let dt run fallow for recommended time and had no cross contamination from qt- dt like nets etc and added nothing else wet to dt but then after fallow ended on dt you add your fish and notice clown has ich ?

I kept one of my quarantine tanks.

I don't think i will utilize it for much livestock, i think i'm fully stocked with 15 fish in my 150 gallon display.

I haven't looked into velvet. Is velvet 6 weeks of Copper or still 30 days like Ich?

I'll definitely quarantine for velvet. I hear horror stories of wiping out 90% of fish usually

45 days later, ich remains and approximately $1500 of SPS gone. nothing but skeletons

One of reasons why I was going to qt everything to not qt anything as would be gutted if medicated qt didn't work with all the effort/money/time either by a little mistake by me or some parasite laid dormant in sand that little bit longer or because lfs use low dose copper in tanks and they became resistant to treatment or whatever .
But for you hopefully if you treated for say flukes or anything else then you kept that out.
Sorry for your troubles and for losing $ 1500.00 of corals however you lost them,hopefully your tank runs smoothly from now on ^_^
