Bakbay's 450g - Final Upgrade?

Flow: I’m still not getting adequate flow so relocated both MP60s to the back wall. It’s a little bit better but might need 2 more MP60s or 2 Sea Sweeps + Tunze. I like the MP60s since it’s a very clean look but honestly cannot beat the Sea Swirls though.

What do you guys think?

I’ve waved the white velvet flag and surrendered! My family and I spent this whole Sat breaking down the tank and (still trying) to catch all fish to QT and secondary tanks.

The Gem tang looks very bad so hoping she will make it.

After 12hrs of work, the tank is now fallow. However, the big Gem Tang just passed, I feel horrible! :crying-face:

Hopefully process will finally get rid of the velvet that’s been plaguing me. Will continue to seed the tank with corals until 77d later. We will rebuild — that’s for sure.

Good luck brother. I had to remove all my fish due to ich and velvet and completely feel for you. One of the hardest things I’ve had to go through in the hobby. Lost some of my favorite fish that were with me from day one.

Sorry man, been following, reset will be better than ever for you ...;):)

Thanks - much appreciated. I lost all angels and 2 Koi Tangs — my favorite was the giant Gem tang. But hey — that’s life. It’s only money right? I can just do like the Fed - print more! lol

So — thinking ahead: the frag tank has all my prized fish. I should copper QT each fish before being over to the 450g after 2mos right? That is — that was the only thing that did it. I brought over a healthy fish from the frag tank, no signs of disease for a year!

The other fish — copper is at 1.5 and will stay at 2ish for 2 months until transferring back.

Ask Jay ... :thinking-face:

I’m going to QT with copper everything before bringing over. However, I think it’s a litmus test to bring back the fish that are treated first.

If ai still got velvet, now what? Bleach the whole tank?

guess cross that bridge when you get there ?
use a tester fish after fallow ?

I just finished fallow. Left it empty for 60 days. Added 15 fish at once no problems.
I'd think with a 450 gallon system I would go full 73 days ,but not really a fishguy... :face-with-rolling-eyes:

My holding tank is the 175g — will have copper at 2’ish so the plan is move them all over when done with fallow.

Did you have to gradually reduce copper on the QT or just move all fish over as-is to DT?

Frag tank update — things are growing well but a little crowded atm.

Actually, we considered ourselves very fortunate and didn’t plumb the frag tank into the DT. The velvet breakout would wipe out both tanks! I’m now super conscious about mixing tools and dipping hands into different tanks, risking cross contamination.

Awesome frag tank , absolutely ,always full set of tools for each system...
I wash my hands between tank "work"and feeding each tank, 1 at a time...

Just to be clear, did you move any fish from your 450g DT to your frag tank? And your frag tank is not your QT tank, right? I'm getting mixed up with all of your tanks. And you would dose only copper into a fairly empty QT tank (no corals, minimal rocks/sand).

Currently, I have 5 tanks (not counting the 360g that’s sale pending)

1. 150g : SPS, untouched
2. 93g: Frag/Lagoon tank/Hadonni, untouched

Just messing with the following:
3. 450g: fallow
4. 175g: QT, currently housing all the fish from 450g, BB, no sand, no corals but got some leftover rocks
5. 20g: QT2, just got 2 fish (Naso & Parrot). I will move to 175g and shut down in a few days

I originally didn’t want to use the 175g as a hospital tank but since that’s what I have that is already salted and running (to save cycled rocks) — so why not!

Question: too many rocks ok or it will absorb the copper? I’m going to bleach all rocks when I’m done anyway.

My friend Mike at Dr reef QT all my fish for me. He sent me labels and a box and I shipped them all to him.

I might buy another smaller tank (60-90g) just for QT since I need to do 10+ fish at a time. The current 20g is not going to cut it!

How big are your QT tanks?
