Hi everyone,

I noticed this naso has some back spots on it. Black ich?

Didn’t notice the spots until after placing it in my qt. Shortly after being put in the qt the fish began to aggressively rub itself on some sand I had in a saucer.
I removed the sand and snapped some pics.

also noticed some white on it but not sure if it’s

I now plan on treating all the fish in the qt.

should I go with the stickied method? Or would a different approach be best?

The other two fish are a powder blue tang and a blue hippo

These are turbellarian worms and likely the Paravortex version which are smaller and appear as grains of black spots
These worms have a single host life cycle producing several juveniles which can last up to 30 days but rarely do. Best is to treat with Praziquantel better known as prazi pro for two 8 day intervals with a water change on day 9.
other option is formalin based medication such as quick cure or ruby Rally Pro starting with a bath for 45 minutes followed by treatment
Do note that Prazi will lower both oxygen and appetite, so an airstone is recommended for added aeration and monitor water quality during treatment.

Thank you so much for the quick response !

I will be researching up on this. I’m guessing I should start the treatment with prazi pro? since I am seeing the signs of the worms.

then move onto copper treatment after the prazi is over, am I correct?

also did anyone notice the white blemishes or marks on the fish?

near the gill, and on the right fin. ( first pic )

a larger one on the left side of its body ( third pic )

not sure if that is some other issue or could they just be scuff marks?

I can see a few turbellarian worms (black ich). Praziquantel doesn't work very well for this. Formalin dips do work, but that has issues in terms of finding it, and then, its use had some human health issues. In some cases, these turbellarians are self-limiting, they go away on their own. Lightly siphoning the substrate every evening, also helps remove new worms from forming.

The white stuff on its left side could be a bacterial infection. The naso also looks pretty thin. Is it eating well? If so, you should work on bulking it up.

Hi, thanks for the response. This makes me feel a bit better I guess, but yes you are correct the fish is indeed thin, and has not ate in my tank yet, likely due to stress. It's only been in my tank for a few hours. But I did see it go after some live brine at the fish store, also the owner said it was eating other foods as well but that it did need some fattening up.

One thing I noticed at the store was the naso was trying to get itself cleaned by the cleaner fish.

Should I still use the praziquantel treatment or no?

I definitely don't want to use formalin if it can hurt my health or anyone in my home.

If the naso was posing for a cleaner fish, I would definitely dose the tank with Prazipro, 3x, 8 to 9 days apart, with good aeration.

Getting it to start feeding is really important at this point.....

I had this issue with a naso in the past. I put in QT and fresh water dips fed really well and I believe some prazi . That did it for me in 2-3 weeks

Just ordered the prazi. It arrives tomorrow.

I will try to get the fish to eat well before I start the treatment. Unless its better for me to start treating right away

feeding seems to be a key with these tangs health/immune systems

I received the prazi but I have yet to start treatment. Should I begin with copper or prazi first? I plan on doing both treatments

struggling quite a bit to get this naso to eat. Seems the only thing it wants to do is graze some LR I have in the QT for nitrifying bacteria.

I tried rubberbanding nori but it barely goes for it. The hippo and the powder blue go crazy for it.

The naso will sometimes go for live brine shrimp if it’s swimming by its face.

Very lazy to eat.

Also have tried feeding pellets, flakes , bloodeworms, krill, mysis , and even some homemade coral gumbo. Barely went for any of it if at all.

Start with prazi and treat for an 8 day interval, do a water change and dose one more 8 day interval.
Add air stone to the tank and monitor water quality. Prazi will lower oxygen and appetite a little

I hate to be so back and forth on this. But I have yet to start treating. I have been focused on feeding very heavily in hopes of building up my fish immune systems. Been reading some pretty scary posts about prazi.

I am also struggling to keep ammonia down so I am scared to stress the fish out even more with the meds.

so far no one is reacting to the ammonia it seems. but the naso tang still looks the worse out of the 3. Kinda just hovers around, not nearly as active or as hungry as the powder blue and the hippo.

the best luck I’ve had feeding the naso has been rubberbanding nori and brine shrimp. Barely even goes for those but will nip here and there

Idk if I should wait until tank is cycled or if I should just dose the prazi while battling ammonia.

feeding heavy affects water quality and leads to stress in some cases.
Please remind me what youre using to monitor ammonia?

Red Sea test kit.

I agree the feeding is definitely contributing to the ammonia. But I don’t think it’s the only cause especially with a brand new tank

Just added a hang on filter rated for a 50 gal and a aerator rated for an 80 gal.

hope this will be enough aeration and surface agitation if I do end up using the prazi pro

Also just read the directions on their site and it says to dose with products to remove ammonia. Maybe I should not dose while ammonia is still present

I believe it refers to added new water . what test kit are you using for ammonia?
