Best way to go about treating these fish?

I doubt I would treat both at the same time. Especially since you guys say there’s no signs of ick. I could prob just use the copper later on. I would want to make this as easy on the fish as possible, since the naso already seems a bit weakened.

Someone also mentioned internal parasites. I believe this is something that neither copper nor prazi deals with am I correct? If so that’s yet another treatment I may have to end up using…
General Cure contains metro and prazi. You could try dosing that to the QT tank for a few days and see how they react.

Internal parasites are fairly common, but you can offset them to a high degree by feeding more/better foods. Unless you see white stringy feces, things like tapeworms won't kill the fish, and other internal parasites take a bit of time. Prazi will help with cestodes. Copper won't help with internal parasites at all.

No stringy feces yet but like I said before I have been trying a wide variety of food.
I made a fish food gumbo a few weeks ago, krill, mysis, squid, tuna , reef roids, spirulina all blended together.

hasn’t ate that much but has picked on nori the most. Hopefully will develope a taste for the prepared foods soon.

Also feeding flakes and pellets here and there

I just dosed the first round of prazi. I was a bit scared so I went light on the dosing. I calculated I have about 16g of total volume water in my tank. I dosed 3.5 ml which is the dose for about 14 gallons of water.

I removed my bio wheel and my filterpad for the Marineland hang on because it contains carbon.

Do I need to throw away the bio wheel and filter pad since it was in the qt tank already?

also I left the rock in for nitrifying purposes. Am I ok to leave it in through the 2 rounds of prazipro? Or would I be better off removing it after the first round because it may absorb some of the medication and skew my second round dosage??

Added as much surface agitation and aeration as I could. Was also going to leave tops off to not restrict oxygen

This morning everyone is okay (no casualties) but everyone seems to extremely inactive.
Blue hippo looked like it had a bunch of white spots. Don’t wanna say it’s ick cause I’m not sure.
Powder blue noticed no difference beside hiding alot
And blonde naso looked rougher than ever.

hoping everyone makes it through the day. I will likely do a partial wc tonight after 24 hrs of dosing.

Sorry - for some reason, I wasn't seeing your flagged posts (I think maybe the list got too long on my screen and they scrolled off).

A bio wheel doesn't contain carbon does it? They didn't used to anyway. You should continue to run that to help with biological filtration.

It is fine to leave the rock in the tank, prazi won't harm that.

Careful the fish don't jump out with no tops!

The powder blue seems to have cloudy eyes. The reported spots on the hepatus tang is also worrisome - hard to rule out ich with a description like that.

Finally, what is the tank water testing out at, especially for ammonia?

Thank you so much for the response jay!
I will put the bio wheel back in then, don’t think it has carbon either.

I was just on google looking up what my next course of action should be.
I literally just tested for ammonia, here are the results after 5 minutes (has not been 15 mins yet like the test states)
image.jpg

if I need to do a water change to lower my ammonia should I dose the new water?
It’s almost been 24 hours since my in initial dosing. I dosed at 7:30 PM It’s 4:13 atm

15 minutes have passed I would say ammonia is at .2 image.jpg

worth mentioning the fish seem to be breathing fast and the blonde naso has her fins completely out, what I believe is called flashing

Ammonia tests are really tough to read. Look more at the yellow or green tint and not the overall density of the color. I would read that test as a .4 or .5 yellow/green would be lower and blue/green would be higher.
Make sure the tank has good aeration. Praziquantel is most effective in the first few hours. So you do not need to add it back to the water you are changing.
The extended fins isn’t flashing, that is basically when a fish scratches itself on surfaces.

I’m really worried how this case is turning. Can you post a short video of the fish?
Do you have copper meds?

I have copper power and I also have metro if I need to use that. For now I only plan to use copper power after the prazi treatment is done. As for aeration I’ve added as much as I can , the whole tank has micro bubbles.

I took these videos this morning, I can’t take any right now cause the lights are off but the fish appear to be doing better than they were this morning. They are still hiding a lot but seem better.

I can see the spots on the hepatus, but not clearly enough to tell if it is ich or not. Both fish seem to be breathing a bit fast. Skip the metro in this case, I think you should consider starting up the copper.....

Thanks, I thought so. i have to buy a copper tester still. I heard hannah high range is good, but it’s also pricey.

any cheaper alternatives out there that will get the job done?

I'm not sure what all test kits are available. The API kit is too difficult to read IMO. The Seachem kit only works with Cupramine. The Salifert kit tops out right at the range for copper power.

well I ended up biting the bullet and paying 80 bucks for the test kit with 25 reagents. I guess it will be better like that anyways. Leaves the guessing out of it, I always was pretty bad at reading the colors on these tests…

I was thinking of changing water this morning to alleviate some of the ammonia. Would this be okay?
I am worried the medicine is still working. I read online it works only for the first 24hrs to kill parasite. But then also read it can be active for 48 to 72 hrs in the water

Pics from this morning. Have not been able to snap one of the blue hippo yet will post one when I get one

Are these fish in copper yet? if not, I'd go ahead and dose the QT tank up to full copper.
if you have copper power, add 1.5 ML per gallon of actual tank volume. If you use that, you will be fine until your Hanna copper checker shows up.

These fish appear to be getting worse. I'm not sure why they aren't in copper yet.

The prazi can stay active in the water for up to 72 hours, but it starts breaking down after a day. by the time it has been in the tank 24 hours, it has already done most of the work and is now breaking down and becoming less effective. Go ahead and do a water change if its been a day. do the water change and then dose the QT tank with 1.5 ml copper per gallon. That will get you close to 2.5ppm. Then just confirm the copper level once your hanna checker shows up.

I didnt really feel like they're in that bad of shape. But now I am worried. I didn't want to dose prazi together with copper because I read up the two should not mix. If I do dose copper I will likely do some very large water changes prior to eliminate as much prazi as possible.
Up until the prazi pro dosing, everyone was looking better.. at least compared to when they arrived I feel.

Powder blue and hippo were chowing down.

Blonde naso actually started eating some blood worms soaked in selcon the day before and right up until I started with the prazi dose.

I prefer not to dose prazi and copper at the same time, but many people do that with no apparent issues, so it may just be that I'm too cautious....

I think I have removed the majority of the prazi by now. I’ve done 2 water changes about 50% each.

Was thinking of very slowly dosing copper until I get my test kit. Will get the tank up to 2.0 ppm over a extended period of time. Will 2.0 be good enough?

going by a scale I read on R2it said 1.18 ml per gallon

I am thinking I am at roughly 16 gallons of water so 16x1.18 ≈ 19 ml of copper power is this correct ?

just got home and got to see the blue hippo out. Not looking good at all, completely covered in white spots.. velvet??
