@Katrina71 best thing to start with is draw up what you need to visualize what you're putting together, it's like that lil book that comes with legos to help you put them together.
Then you can measure what length certain pipes need to be.
I'll be doing this soon. I have 4 sticks of 2ft purple 1" showing up from BRS today, next week when I get my check I'm buying the rest of the plumbing bits.
Sometimes it's easier to lay everything out on the floor flat in the same exact layout as your drawing

Oh and I had a thought, 13 G that runs about 10 G water, fire some small nano / pico tanks up world, no pressure!
Return pump (Eheim 1000, only upgrade) and heater and stock lights.
Do it because you want to experiment with the ability to put things back in the same place they were!
