Brute and phosphate issues

Im thinking mine may have been due to cleaning issue. Have always cleaned with vinegar every 2-3 water changes but may need to more often. Also the problem was when I left mixed water in ther more than a few days. I use one for my rodi water and keep water in it constantly, that is my emergency water and top off. Never had an issue with it.

The Brute can has been filling all day and I took the sample from the top. I'll check the can and the RO unit again and report back.

Happy to say that I checked .02 with hanna after getting salt mixed before water change. Plan to leave the few gallons I have left till tomorrow and recheck to see if it goes up. Guess mine was just need for cleaning. The straight rodi water seldom gets cleaned, but maybe I will start cleaning it more.

0.06 in my Brute can this evening... Not cool
Do you use a heater in this can for mixing??? Im just wondering if the heater may make the cans leach stuff into the water. My heater is a little big for the amount of water it is heating so maybe I should reduce the heater size.

I'm not sold that I took an accurate reading last night as one week ago I measured the P04 in my mixed saltwater that I was going to use for a WC and it was at 0.00. How can my holding tank be 0.06 but my WC container be 0.00 when the water comes from the holding tank(Brute) to the mixing tub???

I don't see why are people so worry about this even if you add your water change water with a .06 reading the water change is too small to make a change on your system unless you are doing a hudge water change like a 75 % which I would think is a waste if you have great filtration that .06 would be nothing to your system.

Also you are probably adding more phosphates than that everytime you are feeding.

I was thinking the same exact thing! Good points sir.

I'm also not sure but I remember some one saying that Hanna test kits can't test fresh water unless it is the model that cost $200!
I had these same thoughts about phosphates but in the end it was more likely my feeding.

I didn't even think about that.... I'm going to stick with my initial thoughts that the Brute can is OK as I tested 0.00 with the Hana Checker on my freshly mixed seawater.

I think the temperature of the water may make it test different also. I tested once with cold water straight out of unit and it read high. Let it sit for 30 minutes before test and it tested 0. I think maybe just keep it clean and go with it. Im fighting the hair algae and looking for my root cause. Maybe it is just not enough flow in the tank or the sand bed is the culprit. Running phosguard now and the scrubber it is slowly coming down. The 90 gallon is running around .03 and use the same container to do water changes so apparently not the brute.lol

I'm fighting the same battle. There is another thread on P04 in salt mixes that I am following.
