Busted corner on new tank

Yeah no way ill chance that around my new flooring and other belongings. Thing that sucks more than anything about it is it took 5 of us to baaaaarely get it down there, all to just set it down wrong and have that. No way we’ll be able to get it back upstairs

Anyone know if theres any good companies that sell tanks already drilled for synergy overflows other than SCA? Any recommendations? I heard glasscages make some good tanks. I need to find something pretty quick because i have to be out of my other house soonish and no way im messing with moving that piece of junk tank. This was my big upgrade hah

If it were me. Cheap me..... I would find a person to 3d print large corner covers/ bottom base. Remove the entire plasic that is there and sink the entire tank into a new molded base and silicone it all on, and throw molded (so preasure is dispersed) corners on the inside as well, and silicone them in.

Well, worst nightmare has come true. Got my new 150 to basement and someone dropped it on a corner. Heres the dmg. Glass is 1/2 think and it has dmg to both sides around the silicone (one chip had a piece of silicone stuck to it. And it took off the smaller sliver about the size of a quarted. Am i ruined? Opinions? Suggestion?

Yea I would not trust it.
I know how you feel.. A couple years ago I bought a Marineland 93 cube and it had all the dreaded micro-bubbles in the seams. I had drilled the tank so warranty was void.
I was so angry I threw out the tank and stand and I will never buy Marineleand again.. They had tons of bad tanks at the time too. I sold off everything else for the build at a big loss.

Also last week I chipped the end of one of my new aquariums moving it. I banged it on another tank..
I am setting up like 20 plus tanks and was trying to move them by myself.. Thankfully it was the very top out of the water.

Really sorry to hear about the damage. My advice coming from someone who just dumped 10+ gallons on my floor last night from a leak is..

Don’t try and fix it.

The resins used by windshield glass companies will not work for this damage. Trying to reinforce or seal it up is a gamble. If you find someone to fix it I would first ask if they will guarantee the repair. Will they pay to replace the tank and fix any resulting damage from failed repair. I cannot see anyone doing that.

I would try to call the vendor and be honest. Small chance, but they may surprise you and say they will exchange it since they have a good relationship with the manufacturer.

Good luck. Don’t let this be a deterrent. I said to my wife last night after the leak that I was done and was gong to drain it and put it in storage. Today is a new day and I am looking in rebuild my plumbing right away.

Perhaps misery loves company.

I did this last week on a 100g custom tank I had made. Finished painting the back and side of the tank and was putting the pallet jack under it to move it closer to its final place. Apparently I had slid the tank just past the edge of the pallet when painting and the pallet jack made contact with the tank before the pallet. Like you, I was extremely frustrated but ultimately decided to order a new tank. While the tank is way overbuilt and might have been fine, it wasn't worth always worrying about it failing. The thought of the loss of life of the inhabitants and potential damage to the house wasn't worth trying to save the price of a new tank (which will likely pale in comparison to the cost of replacing the livestock and fixing the damage to the house).

Tank is probably the cheapest part of this hobby. I don't think I'd bother with it, and just get a new one.

A few thoughts:

Look into adding steel framing like this. It can actually look quite nice if done well. Get it custom made with tight tolerance and silicon to the tank. The below is a Reef Savvy tank with steel bracing for example. I had a custom steel top frame made by Crystal Dynamics for my tank to reduce bowing which worked well. It would also completely cover the broken area and make it look nice again.

And also consider adding internal glass reinforcements like this.

With both of these, maybe there's a chance.

That tank is damage already beyond repair, no matter what u put on it it's going to leak eventually, remember the salt kind of eat anything and the water will eat the silicon or what ever u put on it, once is chip it's done .... Some one have to buy u a new tank...did u move and movers did this damage?

My tank cost less than its contents and life support for them all. OK, half in glass isn't cheap, but now you build yourself a 250 Gallon and look toward the future. You never know what could have been had you not cracked it - perhaps it was the good tank fairy telling you something.
It's too early to give up. There's some reverse psychology for you.

The material used for glass repair does work, I tried it. What is does is repair chips, it does not repair fractures. What I see from the picture, and it may not be the whole story, is a non- structural chip. I am only speculating on the extent of the damage so at the end of the day it is the OP's call.

The best way is to take it apart at the seams. I have found the best tool is the thin blades that are in disposable razors. I have also tried, piano wire and fishing line using a "saw" action. Glass isn't cheap, and if you are really ambitious you can clean the glass, purchase new ones to replace the damaged pieces and reasemble. That would be my choice.

We got a 300 gallon from glass cages a few years back. They drilled per our instructions. Beautiful tank! I’m sorry this happened. You’ll get through it though and we’re here to help!

Don't get yourself discourage, we have many ups and downs in our road thats why is call a hobby, every hobbist must know that things can happen at any time, that we are the direct cause or not..It won't matter, trust me you will miss your tank and the relaxing time that you get while you sitting down and look your aquarium...

I was thinking about that, I believe the whole panel should be replace but it alls depends if the panel won't come out almost the same price as a new tank
