Calling Current USA light owners... where you at?

These lights arent good enough to support sps imo. I added 4 t5s to do most of the work with nice results.

I am wanting to put these over a frag tank. The tank is 18 inch cube, 8 inches tall. I am assuming after reading this thread that those who are not happy with the lights have these on deep tanks. Is that correct? I have an Aquatic life T5 hybrid on my 45 cube with an aquatic life xs-uv light that I am very happy with. I do want to make sure that any frags that I put in the tank will not go from a lot of light, to not a lot of light. On a frag rack, these corals are going to be maybe 6 inches from the top of the water. I was going to use the Current bracket for the tank, and buy two of the 18'24 non pro version lights. Is the pro going to add that much? I do not need nor want bluetooth or app control. I want sat manual and forget.

I run blue 90* white 0 green 30 while I’m at work. When I get home I turn the white up the 65 when I go to bed I cut everything off. Grows zoas and other lps just fine.

It grows softies and lps just fine. Most of us who are complaining about it want sps and maybe clams. It couldn’t support those.

The pro does make a pretty big difference. I think it has something to do with the lenses. On that shallow of a tank, you should be ok. This may help you:

The pro version is just two of the lights and they have a sale right now.

It is at 119$ on the site, but when I put it in my cart it goes up to 129$. I can get it off amazon with the 20% off coupon they have now. Thanks for that link though!

Also, thanks @theshrimpnibler. That DEFF helps. I will have no issues with SPS with this light in a 8inch frag tank.

Will place the order and get my little frag tank set up over the next few weeks.

One last thing... someone who has these, do you think it is possible to rig the bracket to hold 3 lights? I would buy two for the extra weight. These are the 18inch lights.

You would probably need to either get a second set of brackets or do quite a bit of handy work. I would just use the arms that come on the sides of the light. It gets them close to the water, so you get higher par.

FYI. It looks like the lights Current has on sale are the older 120 degree lenses. The newer versions have 90 degree lenses. Something to look at, especially if you are concerned about depth of tank/par.

Good deal tho. I just bought the bluetooth pro version (2 x the 90 degree ones) over black friday for my 20 gallon long. They were a bit higher priced. I will update with how I like them once they are delivered.

Someone has done it with three on the bracket, though you’d need a second controller. You can contact the company and see if they sell the brackets themselves. You may need the extenders too but I’m not sure.

any updates on your tanks guys? I have the dual 18-24 ic pros on my small tank but haven't really dived into coral. Just picked up a 75 gallon tank and trying to decide if I should get the dual 48-60 ic pro (I debated also the dual 36-48 ic pros) I don't think other than a black box I am going to find something under $500 for a 48" length.

Anyway all that to say How are your tanks doing and did you add supplemental lights with these?

My tank is doing well, surprising growth on SPS at about a month.
Zoas and LPS thriving.

I am supplementing with T5s, but I will say cost wise, I still think doing these with a couple T5s is cheaper than most your high end LEDS.

Back in the day (a little over 3 years ago), they had a 'pro' version with narrower angle lenses that 'could' be used in pairs but were sold individually in many cases (LFS in my case). I ended up going with a G4 Pro when they came out because I wanted to grow SPS.

I have 2 ic pro 36 in over a 30 gallon and they have been good for low demand coral. Here is my hammer that is now 12 heads, I bought it with 2 a year ago. It is kinda deflated for the night though. And my gsp weed that is going to take over everything eventually. (garbage picture I know, I am trying to hide all the aiptasias on the rock behind it. Total plague

)

The current usa ic pros will definitely be more than enough power to run her small tank. My marine pros are on my 240 that’s 36 inches deep and will absolutely hit 100 par on the sand bed.

now with that said she does have a lower model than I do. Her lights wouldn’t work on a tank as large as mine for sps. However as small as hers is she has mote than plenty and good spectrum.

Also my maximus clam was 24 inches down in my tank and does or well did do great. I had to move my tank to my new house in September, my clam was not happy and died 2 days later. It was close to 7 inches And moved the whole rock with it.
Current usa can probably tell you how, Brandon and Ike are really amazing and they have by far the best service ever.
