Clarification on Jaw Dropper origins

I think most sps fanatics have this coral on their dream list. It sure seems like this was a wild colony that just looked so amazingly terrific. I hope the hobby sees some of the new frags match expectations of the original pictures but this may or may not be realized.

I have however not enjoyed the innuendo, hype, bravado or even the confusing clarifications by the sellers. This ongoing discussion has been and is embarrassing. I am not interested who is on who's payroll, or who shines who's boots. I think selling coral as a business must be incredibly difficult and fraught with financial risk. Sometimes, gentlemen, less said is better.

I do give reef raft USA a great deal of credit for staying out of the fray, though . Guys keep your private affairs to yourselves. I do have to admit that when this level of drama makes one closed thread after another, it is difficult to stop following along. Kind of like staring at an accident on the side of the road. You know you shouldn't look, but it's hard not to.

All I really want is for you all to share your beautiful corals with us all.

RR Canada / Asia was taking JD picture from fresh collected specimen that we all know the color only true given the ocean condition where it was collected.
Reputable seller will get it established in reef aquarium condition and then offer frags for sell.
I have seen many lately try to sell coral too prematurely in the excuse of trying to recoup for the investment. The victim always eager buyers.
I hope whoever that fortunate enough to have the original frag will grow it out and let it established.

You can see many similar JD pieces from indo supplier fb that supplies all reefraft whoevever they may be.
I am sure many similar one came to the US and of course they are not the original that came via rr canada / asia.
When you mix all this situation we will arrived at what we are discussing now.
It is about time for TGC or whoever like to play with lineage card to start applying for patent.

Some vendors here offers lineage frags from established colony, some even further out to in house aquaculture.
This is the way to go and should use them as an example how the right way to do it. Then we as consumers can justify the cost.

This is my JD before and after 1.5 months of coloring up under a 8 Bulb ATI.

Between the first and second picture I added 2 ATI Actinic bulbs to the fixture and got rid of the Coral + so you can see a bit of purple and blue on the plug, but for only 6 weeks of stability and color its heading very much in the right direction, I am not sure if it will ever reach the original color but it is certainly extremely nice and continues to change daily.

I didn't get it for crazy hype prices as things cost a bit less in Canada.

I gotta say I get all the flack this is getting, and really as a collector and owner of the frag its interesting and fun to follow along.

I would like to see RR USA post some pictures of what they are selling as JD to clear up some air, maybe if more pieces get out there someone can color it up more.

Ethics and competition aside as long as vendors keep supplying the consumers with nice products we should be happy... as far as I am concerned (this is all just my opinion)... The way this hobby is headed, once wild collection is eventually no longer sustainable or becomes illegal, we will rely heavily on so called chop shops and frag farmers to keep the hobby sustainable (and frankly we should all be trying to promote any sustainable efforts in the hobby to begin with.) If these people are slinging delicate volatile products and they are able to charge a premium for it we should be happy because it makes the reef supplies and livestock business profitable even lucrative and sustainable for those out there. Anyone who owns a business and more so a mom and pop style shop does not have it simple period.

I realize this is a bit off topic, but I just find if you don't want to pay a lot of money for corals fine, but don't condemn the people who have found a way to market and promote premium products for a premium price. It exists in any industry and there will always be people who want to pay for what they think is the best regardless if everyone doesn't necessarily agree its the best.

if I was to ever reconsider purchasing the JD, I would definitely want a frag from you. probably the best representation i have seen. probably the only one that can be truly verified straight from og Colony.

Can I ask what is so special about this acro? It's green with some orange and maybe blue polyps. Besides that I seen tons of acro that way better looking.

Well... Thats the thing... There is nothing special about this acro. It's entirely based on hype. As my former mentor at Morgan Stanley used to say about tech stocks (early 2000) "Its all sizzle and no steak!" On a good day with perfect lighting and all of the stars aligned... this is a$250 acro at best... and thats with the hype baked into the price. If someone can actually acquire an acro that looks exactly like the original, then were talking. As the corals looks today, its an epic fail. Its almost like it should be called the Kim Kardashian acro. Over Exposed, Over hyped, and Over valued... And quite honestly, if corals could have talent JJ wouldn't have any. I really couldn't care less about the true lineage of this acro. If you want to see a nice acro, look at what Jackson6745 or Aquanaut have. Those are nice corals and deserve a nice price tag! Congrats to these two reefers for having truly amazing corals

to each is their own, if you like it and it's in your pay grade then so be it. some would say it is as green as Pikachu:wink:
