Cyano Killing off Chaeto

No worries :)
I live to get to the bottom of things
Good luck with that one. You won't get any real information other than perhaps some reassurance. Remember, they are in the business of selling this product but aren't required nor willing to disclose the ingredients.

Here is their MSDS. Notice that they don't even list their ingredients there as it's not required by OSHA.

Oh no worries!
I was more thinking of chemical analysis from our university here. 5 blocks down the road
Have to give them something to do!

I firmly believe that chemiclean is not an antibiotic
Its an antibacterial (soap based)
This is solely based on my observation of the reaction from foam fractionation

Maybe a close compound to this

I would disagree regarding it being soap based but even if they did have soap as an ingredient, it's been banned from certain European countries because of regulations on over the counter sales of antibiotics and tests were done in Hanover Germany that showed erythromycin as an ingredient which led to the ban.

FWIW, virtually every red slime remover on the market including those that list erythromycin as an ingredient have the same impact on skimmers & cause the skimmers to go nuts. They all recommend shutting the skimmer off for this reason and they all recommend a large water change in the days after use. Whether it's a common ingredient that they all share or the impact on the surface tension of the water or the die off of bacteria, I don't know but they all have the same impact on protein skimmers.

In any form requires a prescription here in the states and understandable as why it may be banned overseas.
I love research!
Because this is not for human consumption, it falls under EPA laws and not FDA laws in the US. In the US, the only issue with the EPA would be the inclusion of pesticides. In other countries, the use of antibiotics have much more stringent regulations even if it's not for pharmaceutical use.

From Boyd in response to the product being removed from distribution there:
"We cannot supply the exact ingredients as Chemi-clean is a closely guarded secret within the company. We do not have to file any registration for it with the EPA as it isn't a pesticide of any kind and it does not directly kill any micro fauna. It works by 'cleaning' the aquarium. The EPA has approved our packaging and label for what it says and has classified as it a non pesticide. If you have some difficulty with the law in Germany we could probably provide you a copy of the letter from the EPA here in the US to present to the proper German authorities so they can do the same themselves."

Didn't see mention of a skimmer. Do you have an adequate one on the system?
Yes I am running a vertex rated for up to 250 gallons almost double my system.

Also running a UV skimmer

When was the last time you changed your UV bulb? That looks like an Emperor Aquatics UV? If so, how many watts is it and how much flow are you running through it? How many total gallons in your system?

You are correct that is a Emperor and it's a 25 watt. Running a small pump running 1200lph. The unit is virtually brand new. I installed the UV skimmer 2 1/2 months ago.

You might try changing the lighting in the fuge I run a plain 60 watt led with a auto light reflector.

I have been running a filter sock. Since I turned out the lights 3 days ago the bloom is almost gone just wanting to make sure I eliminate it from coming back. What do you mean a auto light reflector?
