I am devastated this morning. I came to feed my fish and the whole tank is dead. Every single fish and snail. I feel like it had to be the new heater shocked the tank. What else could have happened. Everyone was happy and swimming when I went to bed. I feel awful they went out this way. Pic posted to confirm my suspicion. How can I figure out what piece of equipment did this.

All of the equipment is plugged into a GFI and surge protector. No dosing or ATO on the tank

Bummer ... sorry to hear that.
You said new heater -- does the water feel OBVIOUSLY cold or hot?
Seems like it had to be a massive temperature swing to do that,,, or did you mean electrical "shock"?
I believe electrical shock. How else could an entire tank die off

Using a heater controller?

First off sorry about your loss, I went through the same thing several years ago.

Electrical shock generally won’t kill the fish because the water is more conductive than the fish, so the fish is not the “path of least resistance”. I’m not saying stray current is good but not usually a kill everything at once event. It still could be a large temp swing causing the tank gettin too hot or too cold that killed the entire tank. What is the current temperature of the tank and what was it before adding the new heater? Was the heater and temp controller but new and just added?

Is this the tank you got for free? Didn’t you have high ammonia after the move? Did it ever resolve itself? Sorry for your loss, I had a wipe out, a long time ago, through disease and my ignorance.

This is the established tank I have. The fish have been alive and well in it for about 3 week before last night. Ammonia has been zero or close to zero. After testing all the parameters the only thing the was off from normal was PH being 7.8 vs 8.2

So sorry for your loss. This really sucks losing all at once.

So, they were in the 75 gallon that you moved Saturday? Do you think maybe there was an ammonia spike?

I tested after the move. No spike and I have a seachem ammonia alert in there that is still yellow

I test for electrical shock. My UV was putting almost a volt of electricity into the water which doesn’t seam very high to me but I’m not sure

The fish have only been in the tank 3 weeks?
Seems relevant…

I have had the tank running for a couple months. Recently I got a 150 tank that had 4 fish in it. I QT them for a little over a week. Added them about 1.5 weeks ago. Everyone was happy. Then two days ago I moved the 75 into my climate controlled garage and today would have been day 3 when the mass die off happened.
