Disease ID on naso tang

So my naso has had this for a little while......kind of looks like what I would think velvet looks like....all other fish in tank look fine and he is still swimming ajd eating.....please let me know if you have any idea what this is.....TIA

Now that is interesting. How long is "a little while"? Is he breathing heavy, scratching or flashing at all?

I would say a week. No to either.....it is much more visible under actinics

Did you QT him and your other fish? What do you feed him? Any stressors in the tank?
It looks like his slime coat has thinned in those areas. It may be a good idea to start switching up what he's eating.... adding selcon or other vitamin supplements(maybe fish oil too) to his food.

He was not qt'd.....I got him from a hobbyist.....that's an interesting idea....I did recently add a blue hippo, maybe that bothered him....I feed him a well balanced diet but maybe I'll try some other things.....will be nice if thats the only issue.

Nasos are known for displaying odd coloration, looking splotchy at times, but this one is new to me. Does it look like the spots are under his skin or raised on top? Or does it just seem to be an odd color pattern?

It looks on top....kind of looks like its flaking off but I don't think it is....

Can you post a pic of the fish under full spectrum lighting? Just to get a different view of this.

My "best guess" is it's a bacterial infection of some sort. But I am far from certain of that. My advice is to carefully monitor him and all your other fish for now. Meredith's advice about soaking his food in Selcon/vitamin supplements is a good one.

Yup. boost that immune system as best you can while we wait to see if anything else shows up. Hopefully he pulls hisself out of this with no further action. It is rather strange. It reminds me of having really dry skin, which is stupid because he's a fish and in the water, but that's why I think his slime coat is either gone in those areas or just really thin. The second batch of pictures throws me a bit and makes me rethink my thin slime coat theory. Just not sure.
