I name my fish and inverts -- after they've earned a name. Of my current tank inhabitants, only a handful have names.

Glitch - Royal Gramma Basslet (because he arrived under heavy sedation and was swimming like a glitching video game as he came to)
Popeye - Melanurus Wrasse (because he injured himself and has a popped out eye right now)
Ladyfish - Orchid Dottyback (looks like Ladyfish from The Incredible Mr. Limpet)
Bob - Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse (he just seems like a Bob)

Former Inhabitants:
Uncle Marv - Yellow Watchman Goby (RIP -- but he looked just like my grumpy late uncle)
Mr. Bobinsky - Arrow Crab
Mr. Bobinsky Gif.gif

Claude Monet & Ralph Waldo Emerson - Emerald Crabs

Apparently we have decided to name all our fish after serial killers.

Clownfish pair - Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer (When one becomes a female, I am petitioning for Aileen Wuornos)
Tailspot Blenny - Greg (After one our friends who we all joke is a serial killer....)
Mandarin pair - Joe Goldberg and Love Quinn

I think you know where this is going once more fish get added...

I don't name inverts.

Fun idea! I don't typically name fish at work - they all have inventory ID numbers (clownfish #12505, etc.) but I certainly name my pets at home! My staff names our octopus; Octavia, Handy, Sticky, etc.

I have a clownfish in my home tank that I have named Jerky McJerkface after the boat name of the same ilk - because he bites me every time I reach into the tank.

I have only ever named one fish and it is my naoko fairy wrasse.
He got named sump fairy because he got trapped in the back of my Red Sea Max Nano for Atleast 6 hours with a heater that had been on the whole time and came out with no burns or anything - I would say he came out a lot less stressed than he was before he went into the sump.
My other fish have yet to earn their names - My leopard wrasse has just got to last till she hits 2” and she gets the name of survivor.

Yes but we are not very creative with it.
nemo - you guessed it right except this for both the male and female have the same name.
cola battle is a Scopas tang aka ghost fish
The rest have no really a name just referred with its common name

My fish are named after the F.R.I.E.N.D.S characters lol. We have Ross & Rachel, two clowns, Mr. Heckles, the Pink Streaked Wrasse, and Phoebe, the Royal Gramma. I'm picking up a Yellow Wrasse from the LFS, and will probably name it Joey; still undecided though.

I named mine, and agree w/the after they’ve earned it part. So far I have:

Marvin the tailspot blenny

Elvira and Pee-Wee the clowns

Pierre LaMer the cleaner shrimp

Miss Coco and Dior the scarlet reef hermit crabs (Hermès, the third one, perished — Miss Coco murdered him for his fancy shell)

Then I call my large feather dusters Thing One and Thing Two

And the Trochus snails are all just Dopey.

my FW puffers look like simpsons characters so I named them Marge, Lisa, and Bart.

The two clowns are Cujo and Jaws cause they attack me when I put my hands in the tank.
Only other fish that has a name is the Story Blenny "Mr. Munch" cause he looks like PacMan when the food goes in the tank.
My lawn mower is a glutton!’ The other day I fed my tank this guy took the whole cube!! I think I know his name now fat***

Cool topic! I definitely name my fish and some of my inverts too. I like your method for naming your fish, almost like earning a nickname! Very cool!

Mine are named:
Pennywise and Bozo the clownfish.
Sonny and Cher the YWG and pistol shrimp.
Scarlet the firefish.
Punkin the bicolor blenny.
Pinhead the pincushion urchin.

All our fish have names
Sassy the wrasse
Moby the goby
Rusty the copperband
Marlin and coral ( clowñfish pair)
Big bad bren the bully tailspot blennie ( mrs thinks she funny buy baby continued name so it stuck lol.
Giddy up is tje coral beauty
Bluey the blue streak wrasse
Umm just thought on our bi colour blennie unnamed so maybe call it " bastuardo or bassy for short .
Pistol shrimp = bossy pants .
No other shrimp, crabs, snails or urchins have names but when talk About the 2 naughty hermits in sump I refer to them as "naughty little bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep lol

Funny you mention them earning their names. We always say they name themselves. The most recent is a red legged hermit who had an unfortunate run-in with an aggressor and became Mr Crabby No-Claws.

Mocha Clownfish - Amy & Rory (hello Doctor Who fans)
Red Lined Wrasse - Risky (I trust her to be unpredictable)
Midas Blenny - Little Wing
Pink Streaked Wrasse - Gracie
YWGs (RIP) - Macaroni & Cheese
Tiger Pistol Shrimp - Doozer (the constant builder)
Tiger Sand Conch - Lurch (if you've ever seen the way one moves)
Yasha Goby - Fettuccini (she's a cute little noodle)
Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp - Garlic
Pom Pom Crab - Pom Pom (oh so creative)
Porcelain Crab - Fanny McFanface
Mexican Turbo (RIP) - Gary (of course)
Blue Leg Hermit - Ghost in the Shell
Trochus Snails (my original 2) - Charlie & Typhoid Mary (likes to sport a good tuft of hair algae at all times)
Trochus Snail with lots of clam and barnacle hitchhikers - Smallville
