I name my fish and inverts -- after they've earned a name. Of my current tank inhabitants, only a handful have names.

Glitch - Royal Gramma Basslet (because he arrived under heavy sedation and was swimming like a glitching video game as he came to)
Popeye - Melanurus Wrasse (because he injured himself and has a popped out eye right now)
Ladyfish - Orchid Dottyback (looks like Ladyfish from The Incredible Mr. Limpet)
Bob - Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse (he just seems like a Bob)

Former Inhabitants:
Uncle Marv - Yellow Watchman Goby (RIP -- but he looked just like my grumpy late uncle)
Mr. Bobinsky - Arrow Crab

Claude Monet & Ralph Waldo Emerson - Emerald Crabs

I don't have fish in this current build yet, but I always did before.

Good topic.... 'Deuce' my Yellow Tang is the only one who has ever been named. She/ he is my second. 18 years old. A champ.

Yup...we name everything too...always have since my niece's were here staying with us when we started the tank during summer vacation many many years ago!
We have
Clownie....lol
Benny (the Midas Blenny)
Cora (the rusty angel)
And
Rocky (the diamond goby) that is a sand sifting, rock moving, "crabs & snails get the hell outta my way" kinda fella! We adore him... and he has the coolest trick at nighttime getting into his "cave"

Plus we have 2 skunk cleaner shrimp named Stevie Wonder & Ray Charles (because of that rocking motion they do)
Everybody keeps us very entertained with their antics!

Apparently we have decided to name all our fish after serial killers.

Clownfish pair - Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer (When one becomes a female, I am petitioning for Aileen Wuornos)
Tailspot Blenny - Greg (After one our friends who we all joke is a serial killer....)
Mandarin pair - Joe Goldberg and Love Quinn

I think you know where this is going once more fish get added...

I don't name inverts.

We've named our fish after "flamboyant" performers; Sir Elton John (6 line wrasse), and Englebert (purple fire fish). Our cleaner shrimp we call the inspector because anytime anything is going on in the tank he comes running to check it out and generally make a nusincece of himself. I have a couple of more colorful names for the shrimp, bit this is a family friendly forum.

Maria the ever cranky YWG
Lorna the purple firefish
Erika the neon dottyback

My 55g is mostly musicians and "the Dude" named by my then 5 year old son.
Bonnie & Clyde the Darwin black ocellaris clowns
Jello the Niger trigger
Tarjia the coral beauty
Dave (Matthews) the blue dot watchman goby who is paired up with Mr. Snippy-Snappy the pistol shrimp
Bob Marley the sixline wrasse RIP
The Dude the jerkface spotted hawk

And the 110g, they're still in the process of being named, but so far they're Bond Villians
Boris & Natasha the caramel mocha clowns
Octopussy the female blue throat trigger
Goldfinger the yellow coris wrasse

Fun idea! I don't typically name fish at work - they all have inventory ID numbers (clownfish #12505, etc.) but I certainly name my pets at home! My staff names our octopus; Octavia, Handy, Sticky, etc.

I have a clownfish in my home tank that I have named Jerky McJerkface after the boat name of the same ilk - because he bites me every time I reach into the tank.

Oh I love this idea!!!!....I'm going to name my next fairy wrasse Sir Elton.....my last one passed away after getting in a brawl with my kole tang....may his stunning beauty RIP

Thank you! She does eat well...and she has now made her nighttime routine to sleep down near the "copepod hotel"....so I think she snacks all night, LOL
I had a Coral beauty before her also....but she passed away during the brawl between the kole tang and the fairy wrasse, she was besties with the kole tang, mimicking her every move....
