Dorm tanks? New Orleans?

Acrylic might be easier to transport when required if you wanted to go that route. I just got my first acrylic tank Friday and the weight difference from a comparable glass tank was nice!
Yeah that sounds great! I’ll have to look into some systems that use acrylic. Usually I don’t like acrylic because they’re so easy to scratch but since I’ll just be razor blading by hand (and this will probably be bare bottom) I think it’ll be a good fit. I’m thinking probably a pair of clowns or maybe an invert only tank with a pair of coral banded shrimp or arrow crabs

We tried a waterbox 10, as 10 gallons was largest. With a pair of clowns and zoas. Had a qt tank at home for breaks to house the clowns, easier than bringing home the whole tank.
Sounded great until we were told they shut off power during breaks.
Oh man! I’ll still have my home tanks (my dad is taking them over) so maybe this would be a good option for me too! Do gotta look at that power situation though

I suggest going small and getting something like a tailspot that can last a while just grazing on your rock. And I agree that a tank with a fully enclosed lid would be good. Will your dorm have AC? I guess in LA it must. I had reefs in college, but only while living in apartments. Another option: check to see if there is a reef display at the university that you can work on. I've known a lot of reefers who worked on sanjay's big tank at the penn state hub while in college. Whole different reefing experience.

I wanna drop a
Vlamingi in there.
Hehe.

I saw these in person at ReefStock. I bought one for my best friend since his partner won’t let him get a salt water aquarium. LOL.

I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how practical they are; but they looked great and are a nice concept.

I have 3 tanks in my dorm right now. Standard 10 qt. IM fusion 10. And a 2.5 gallon freshwater shrimp tank. You Gotta figure how to bring them home on break! I’ve got a few 5 gallon buckets and battery powered air pumps. Lots of fun and people won’t stop asking questions about them lol

Think imcgetting one now for the bedroom

Unfortunately the college is pretty small, only about 4000 students so I don’t think they have a nice reef tank. I think I’m going to try to start a small “collection” tank in the marine biology department/room with stuff I get out of the gulf. For observation purposes yknow?

Wow thanks!! I’d love to see pics and everything of your setup!! I have an IM 20 peninsula at home that I love with all my heart so I’m kind of hoping for that shape in a 10 or 15 gallon size :)

Thank you so much!! Since I really ~really~ want a peninsula this may be the way I have to go… sounds like the perfect high school graduation gift to me!

I almost got one of these guys a few weeks ago... I need another tank! :face-with-rolling-eyes:
