Are you going to be able to put the tank that close to the wall with the bulkheads and plumbing installed?

Yes. I am going straight through the wall into the closet with my plumbing. That will be my sump room. I will have to move it out a little to clear my light hanger and to run a magnet cleaner.
 
Plumbing :cry: Oh boy. On this tank I am trying to get away from having 4 or 5 power heads in my sump. I am building a 4 valve manifold. I can't imagine the reeflo snapper pump not driving it. Did I mention this pump only uses 95 watts? Last night I built a sump stand, plumbed the manifold and plumed the pump. I will have pictures of that tomorrow, I hope. I build a sump stand that's sits 5 inches high. I plan on installing a drain just in-case I get leaks from any of the equipment, pump, cal reactor, bio-pellet reactor, etc. If I do get a leak it will drain outside. Yes, I will install an alarm. :wink: I am also installing a drain for the sump. This will help me with the water changes. Turn a valve, drain the sump, fill it back up with clean salt water. No more caring buckets outside to dump.

So this has me almost caught up.

I have very limited space in my overflow so I have to do some cutting to get my Durso standpipe to work. This is what I came up with.

So this was my first attempt at a pillar. Well, maybe third or forth :cry: I was playing around and stacking some of my dry rock and it turned out ok. I am going to drill them and use a fiber glass rod to secure them. More on that later.

Stand pipe looks good. The key to getting it totally silent is a little snorkel in case your return is very powerful. My tank also has no powerheads, so I know the challeges of getting 1" drains to handle the flow silently.

Thanks Billy. Are you referring to the hole you drill on top of the cap? "little snorkel"
 
Sometimes if your flow exceeds 800gph, especially with that 90* you have there to the bulkhead, the water will cover the vent and cause siphoning and noise. If you drill this hole slightly larger and use a 5/8" RO system ball valve, or 5/8" tubing secured to the hole using silicon or goop, it will allow the durso to breath even if the flow causes it to cover the entire stand pipe.

Oh. So the ball valve attaches to the top cover and can be adjusted to allow the optimal amount of air in the pipe?
 
Exactly. Although sometimes just a straight piece of tubing can work better by allowing more air flow. More water flow means more air flow to maintain silence. It also allows the drain to handle far more gph.

Will a 5/8" tube with a ball valve work? To adjust as needed. I want to be able to hide as much of the mechanics as possible.

I made some progress last night. I was up until 1 but it's all good. My goal is to have water going through the system today.

I have the over flow return and Durso pipe figured out. I have to agree with many of you. I fear the overflow is to small to handle the volume of water I want to put through it. If that is the case I can throttle back the pump.

The sump it completely plumbed, less the overflow pipe. I might raise the manifold 4 inches or so.

I think you may have an issue, but coming from someone who is pushing over 1200gph through each of my 1" drains, it can be done. Although the fact yours don't come out the bottom of the tank will affect the volume capable of passing through the drain.

Also make sure you put a slip 90* on the return pump intake, this was if your ato fails if you are out of town, you will have at least another day or two before the pump runs dry.
 
Well its up and running. The pump is only pushing about half of what I thought is would. Not sure is the transition down to 3/4" outlets are preventing flow. The standpipe is working and very quit.
