So... I was just talking to a friend this morning and he was telling me he ate his Lion Fish last night for dinner because it had passed on. I know people eat those all the time, but it I thought it was odd eating your own pet. He's a seafood nut and apparently he's tried all of his fish that have passed on over the last 5 years. 2 Lyretails, 1 clown, 1 lionfish and 1 Purple Tang. yuck.

So.. my question is. Has anyone else done this? Just curious is all.

I always joke that my shrimp are big enough to eat but uhhhh never have and never will go there lol

just said "what the ***"
really loud in front of a group of people
i work at an optometrist office lol

but seriously i mean after they died? i guess if he witnesses the death and its still kinda fresh but thats definitley wierd...
i would hate to be his dog or cat

You left me with this picture in my mind-ROFL! Seriously though, eating your own fish? That's just down right ODD!

whaaaaaaaaaaat?!?!?!

i'd be so concerned for many reasons, starting with being afraid of infecting myself with whatever the fish died of in the first place.

and i thought it was strange enough that i have friends who freeze and store all of their dead fish...

Post-mortem fish fry... Not for me. He doesn't know why the fish died so he could be ingesting a parasite or disease in the process. If the fish wasn't taken out immediately after death, decomposition occurs quickly in saltwater.

There are truly some UNIQUE individuals in this world...

Now here is the fat guy in me...did he mention how they tasted...lol

He said it was hard to get a feel for the taste because there wasn't enough meat. It was basically 1-2 bites. He claimed that it wasn't bad or good. lol

Sounds like he needs to feed his fish more...lol.

I still can't imagine pulling a fish from my tank and then throwing it in the pan...

Oh gosh, I knew a woman who would raise tilapia in a 125 for her and her family to eat. Here in florida, as well as some of the tropical islands, the Lion fish has been inroduced on menus. In an effort to erradicate the overpopulation of this predetory and invasive species. Not too sure about home raised, Wild on the other hand is another story. I myself have not tried Lionfish, however I have heard that it does taste good. hahaha

I ate 2 clowns and a bicolor blenny after they died from ich. I'm still alive lol, when you cook them it kills the bacteria

Wow thats crazy I would never eat anything I raised in a tank, on a lot of fish food and additives it says plainly not for fish raised for human consumption or something very similar to that. So that alone would make me not want to eat anything that came out of my tank.
