I would say that nearly any advice from @Humblefish regarding medications and disease.

But the single most helpful thing to me was the Hanna copper checker discovery. @HotRocks and @Hanna Instruments killed it there. That’s a COMPLETE game changer for quarantining successfully. We’ve been astonished to learn how inaccurate copper testing and dosing was (particularly with CopperSafe) and this has led to an entirely new era and hobbyists easily keeping parasitic critters out of our tanks so we can keep foah healthy longer without buying 5 before we find one “immune”.

Overall though as a sole person @Humblefish if he could be advice himself takes the cake.

I was actually going to post something similar. Stumbling upon the disease forum was my game changer. The unbelievable wealth of knowledge over there and the willingness of members to share it is inspiring

Many advice I received over the years that had their value depending on what I was facing it the time. One I remember most (mostly a process not on advice) was when I was having issues i couldn't pinpoint or solve:
Observe, question things u observe, check eqch and every component of ur setup, review ur usual tank practice. Come up with a plan (review that plan and discuss with us many people as u can, change one thing at a time and observe changes things till u get there.

It's time for some Tuesday Sharing!

ADVICE! People love to give advice and voice opinions. They say opinions are like, well you know, and everyone has one. In this hobby people have lots of well intended opinions. Opinions and facts are two different things though. A fact is a statement that is consistent with reality or can be proven with evidence. The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability. One FACT we can all agree on is that it is wise to "take it slow" in this hobby. With that peace of advice already stated let's talk about some other things that have helped you personally in this hobby.

What advice or fact has been a game changer for you and how so?

opinions are like noses.. everyone has one....they all smell..

Quarantine, quarantine, quarantine. Best advice I have received is to treat all coral and fish before adding them to your DD. Saved me quite a few times.
Emphasis on the CORAL, 99% of the people who have tanks dont Qt, and of that 99%, most don't QT corals, its awful to see someone spend months and money Qting all these fish then have ich brought in by a frag!

-water changes consisently
-super low nutrients are bad
-nothing good happens fast
-keep hands out of tank
-dont ignore problems
-dont buy cheap equipment
-dose hydrogen peroxide for many benefits besides algae control
-dont love your tanks more than your wife

Best Advice:
1) Take everything slow, and then slow down more.
2) Water samples are just that... instantaneous shots of what is in your water at that moment. For nutrient tests you need to use visual cues as well as understanding your inputs and outputs to understand what the test results mean.
3) Do what your tank needs, not what you think you should be doing.
4) Pick a method and perform it to the best of your ability. Doesn't matter if it is the Balling method, Triton method, QT'ing practices or relying on a fishes immunity. Decide what you want to do, and do it well.

Best advice for me came through a conversation with Adam at Battlecorals. Simplify your system, no GFO, No crazy additives. Raise NO3 and PO4, way higher than I would have otherwise, Big skimmer and water changes. Simple, simple, simple. It has made this hobby much more enjoyable.

When people say “keep your hands out of the tank”, is that literal - like “use tools not your hands to place coral etc.”. Or is that figurative, like “don’t mess with your tank and placement of stuff too much”?

If the former, how do you place and move coral? I have not had success with tools - I just always drop everything and then have to stick my whole arm in...
