These parasites does not cross infected. Snails parasites will not infect clams IME. Had problem with the snails parasites in the past.

Is everyone buying them from LA/DD? I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to buy one or a squammy or a sps pack? If I were to buy a giga it would most likely be from LA since I live in FL and just hope they pick me a good one. Already have a deresa and a maxima in my tank currently.

I got mine from my local store. The only source of Gigas clams in the market comes from ora a wholesaler farm in Florida as well. If I were you I would ask my local shop to order one for you since you live in the same state as the source of these clams

Got mine from LFS also. Worth talking to your local store to see if they can order for you & you might find they can get you a better price too.

I took the advice above and went to a LFS after doing a trade for coral, and well.....

This was one of 2 and saved a significant amount of money.

Clams feed on phytoplankton. I have a bunch of frozen phytoplankton from the days that I breed clownfish so I decided to start to feed my clams. I keep my small clams in a bucket close to the surface in my lighted sump so it is easy to make an enclosure to keep the phytoplankton from dilute to the rest of the tank. Did this by cut out the bottom of another bucket. Since the bucket is tapper, wider on top so this work out perfect

Here are the clams without the feeding bucket on top. I actually took this picture after I feed them this AM

I will be experimenting with the feeding regiments and will observe and see how my clams do with regular feeding.
This contraption is not perfect yet. There is a gap at the bottom so the phytoplankton can leak out. I will raise the clam bucket a little so the feeding contraption seal this gap, by pushing into the sand. This afternoon feeding there will be no gap. Will see how fast the clams “eat” the phytoplankton.

About 1/4“ radius, 1/2” total length/diameter. I moved the clam into too much light and current early on as my tangs kept knocking it over. This slowed growth over a two week period of time and I thought the clam might not recover. Fortunately it has fully recovered after I moved it into less current and light. Sorry about the blue light. The mantle overhangs the shell under brighter light so it’s hard to show the growth with full spectrum.

Mine looks like that. Got it at aquarium creations. Doing great on bottom of 24 inch tank. Atlantek V4 lights set on LPS/Soft coral setting. Feed roids and/or phyto 2x3 times a week.

Very interested to see if feeding makes a huge difference on those. Also if nutrient levels can be managed with heavy phytoplankton feeding.

I added more sand to the bucket that I keep the clams. Raised the level by about 1.5 inches. Once put the cutout bucket on the clams and push down there are no leaks. I take about 1 hr for the 5 clams clear the green phytoplanton from the water.

That is pretty amazing actually.

I didn't want that large of a clam so picked up a Maxima from Pacific East 3 weeks back. First time clam owner so always nice to read these threads. I'm not feeding photoplankton though but do feed reefroids twice a week.

Maybe I'll go get some plankton since my GSP could also use it maybe. Although my tank is 30" tall so no isolated feeder like you have there. Still really cool what you are doing.

Not quite 2 months. Need to get better pic. The new growth is larger than it appears as the algae has started to cover up the bright white from the 1st couple weeks.
