Golden Dwarf Moray Eel not eating.

Are the pieces your trying to feed small enough to fit in his mouth?
Yes, my snowflake eel who is significantly smaller eats the same size

Dang , so it's fresh from the ocean , that might be your problem there, do you know how long they had it there ?

No I don’t :/ when I asked for verification that it was a golden dwarf (they called it a pygmy so i wasnt sure) the picture they sent me had 5 or so in a bucket, not a tank or anything.

Yea that's more than likely your issue with this guy....well my suggestion is to buy snails for him to eat if you see empty shells and slowly convert to other foods , the stuff your trying to feed are probly foreign to him....

Will do, are there any live foods he might be used to that I can try?

Lol besides your snails you can try hermits and emerald crabs

Another thing I do is feed mine at night , I never feed during the day

I actually have a few crabs in there, including an emerald, i havent seen him in awhile so maybe he became lunch. I just restocked my clean up crew the other day so he should be good

Sounds good! He prople prefers them more than anything

How big is your tank?? I have had 2 different GDM in my years of reefing.... They both were similar. The first one I had hid for about 3 weeks after intro. Thought I lost him. Tons of rock work, 220 Gallon Tank. One day he popped his head out in front. I recall feeding him silversides. He took to them within a week. I had him eating for about a year.

Next one that I have now is in a 65 Gallon tank with nice amount of rock work. He came from a Fish Store that had three and they were there for a while. When I picked him up they stated he was eating..... When I got him home within 24 hours or maybe even less, he was moving around the rock work and looking around. I think he may have taken out my peppermint shrimps.... Oh well... They were there for Apstasia anyhow which is gone.... So by around day 3-4 he came front and center of tank.... The same spot you saw in my video. I had a silverside ready.... He kinda played with it, put his mouth on it, but wouldnt take it. Next day same time at night after lights out, he came out at same spot. Same thing, mouth on it. This time I released the food, and he grabbed it. Then a few days later, he started coming out in same spot, and this time grabbed it from stick. From then on, he rips it off.... I feed him at night only. I feel they are more comfortable and less fish around to grab the silverside.

Also does your GD's eye look like mine? His eye is almost a blue color with a black line? Your looks all black??

This is yours :
Not sure if bad photos but this eye looks brownish color with a black center. My dwarf has a blue eye with black stripe running up and down. I'm hoping you have a dwarf. :(

Mine is in a fluval evo 13.5 that’s exclusively his for now. I’m upgrading to a 75 gallon next June or so and I’m putting my snowflake in that. Then I will put the golden dwarf in the 32 the snowflake is in now. And yes he has the black and blue eyes

Only thing I can think of is he's not happy with small home and comfortable yet. My guy ate last night in a totally different part of tank.... Was about 3 feet away. He had multiple rock work formations to choose from...

possibly, if you look at my full tank shot you will see that he has a lot of rock work ive arranged to make as many caves as possible. He has 3 different main hideouts he likes to stay in

Have you left a silverside in tank on bottom and walked away???

Not with a silverside, I've tried with table shrimp. How long should I leave it in there? I usually leave it in for a hour because I dont want it to get the water all gross.

Let me ask you this, has he ever put his mouth on the silverside and then swam away. Like played with it?
Also do you notice him more active at night?? I feed mine at night, and use my cell phone flash light.
