Good Morning!

Good Morning Reefies.
working today.
then it's live sale time.

don't remember if i posted the pic here of all the bristles in my fingers from my b-worm encounter.
last week sometime. apparently i didn't remove all of the bristles.
very itchy under the skin .

have a fab day.
I got a handful. I dipped my hand in some diluted muriatic acid I was using to clean stuff with and they dissolve in about 30 seconds and are gone. The internet says you can use vinegar but it takes several minutes.
The spikes are made from a calcium based substance.

Good morning.
My largest lionfish shed his cuticle yesterday. He did a little dance in front of one of the MP40s and it came right off. It was interesting to see. Looked like smoke coming off of him.

Good morning. Goito local fish club this afternoon. He has a plywood tank so should be interesting.

Mornin’ All!
Been up since 0300. Crazy rain here over night and the NOAA radio was sounding off all night along with weather alerts from the local (Nashville) weather station on our phones. Never lost power but the internet was out for a while. 4+ inches over night and we’re under a flash flood warning here.
Heading to the LFS and reptile stores this morning. I need some supplies and chems for the Nano and we need insects and pinky mice for Priscilla the opossum.
The snake shed in a million pieces last night so we can add “clean snake cage” to today’s list of indoor shores. She was a rescue that had been fed large live rats and is covered in scars so she never sheds in one piece.
We feed her small, frozen rats (thawed of course) .
Hope Y’all have a great, relaxing day today!
@Paul B
Please keep the pix of your daily excursions coming. I look forward to seeing them daily! :)
Glad to see you and a responsible snake owner. I’ve heard of people looking on the FB market place for free kittens, and small dogs. Turns out a couple of people are feeding them to their snakes. o_O:confused:
Have a great Saturday!

Living in new mexico for 14 yrs. This isn't new to me. Having to protect your dogs from "watchers" was a big thing as well. Craigs List had people telling others "do not give away free puppies and kittens, people are using them to feed their snakes. Sell them for at least 10 to stop this"

Good morning! I haven't stopped in to say anything much this week. It's been pretty relaxing for me.
I probably have a storm coming my way soon. We'll see.

Enjoy the coffee and breakfast!

thinking it's too late for that.

Well, here we go. My Malanurus wrasse has killed and eaten my skunk shrimp. How do I know it was him? No one else is big enough to do it. Let alone the belly size. Now what to do... I love my shrimp and he's awesome but killed them both...

Oh no!! I'm so sorry. I loved my melanarus wrasse, but when I did my tank reboot 2 years ago, I knew had to make the choice of the wrasse or the shrimp. Same with the hogfish in my original tank. I returned the hogfish to the LFS after he grew bigger and decided to make a meal of my cleaner shrimp. Fortunately, the shrimp jumped into the overflow and I was able to save him.

I keep a scalpel in my fragging supplies....maybe the scalpel and then the acid? No, I'm kidding!!!!! ;Hilarious

Supposed to get a huge hurricane tonight or tomorrow morning so tomorrow's pictures may be "interesting" or under water.

I was reading the lighting fantasy thread yesterday. I went and looked at one of the lights mentioned at BRS.
Here is the picture on BRS
210804-atlantik-v4-led-light-fixture-life-style-japanese-reef_1_4.jpg

7 lights over this tank
Only $935 each. Luckily they are on clearance. Originally $1100.
That's 1400 watts. The same as my MH/T5.

I think not.

Some aspects of this hobby seem to be getting silly beyond belief. Just like the $50 dollar a pound fish food.

Or perhaps It isnt just this hobby.
I wanted a new flashlight. A small one. $27 for a AA light to put in my pocket. Because it is LED it just shuts down when the battery gets a little low. So you throw away half dead batteries unless you have another use for them.

I just bought another gas can for my generator because of the hurricane coming tonight. (even though I don't believe it) and I went to Costco to fill it and my car with gas.

The line for gas started out on the main road so the line for each pump was like 30 cars long.

Like really! Who would be stupid enough or cheap enough to wait on that line?

I made a "U" turn and went to another station where the gas is like 7 cents a gallon more and no line. Like who cares!!!!! I don't do lines well.

I am going to keep him. Maybe I can make a system for shrimp and a clown with a bta. If I ever get mine to split or gets big enough. And the dang wrasse can have the 112 system. But, he's been picking on my foxface too. When is that chicken of a fish going to fight back? He's slightly larger than the wrasse. Oh well. Lots to think about and plan.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry... I am sick of led price tags, however.

No wonder they want MH/T-5 killed.
I only paid $799 x 2 to light my 8 foot tank. 4 or more of the current top choice LEDs would be needed to replace it. The cost isn't even close.

How would a wrasse with that little pointy mouth eat a shrimp? I have a fire shrimp and a coral banded shrimp and now I am worried. I have had them a long time.

The shrimp molted last night. They normally hang out in a tight cubby the fish can't get too. For some odd reason they decided to hang out in a openly big cave. And have you seen these wrasse yawn? Those teeth are scary! Sadly I can't ever get a picture of that. Happens way too quick.

I am thinking about going back to a t5 system. I do not like the led growth and coloring at all. So I'll be hunting a 60inch mh/t5 hybrid in a few months. There's been a lot of math done on prices of t5/mh vs leds. And the guys doing the math said having the t5/mh are better for your wallet vs the leds. But you know how that argument goes. Both sides will justify their lights.

But of course, me having current usa, that just means I don't have a clue what I am talking about. >.> nope. I don't.

Edit: if your fish haven't eaten your shrimp, you're fine. It's just like angels with corals. I knew what I got into.

Certain things caught me off guard though,

Happy Saturday! Got to see the cute new granddaughter yesterday, and omg the offer we put on the house we wanted was accepted! Time to plan the tank move circus and start day dreaming about the "monster" tank I have planned for the basement Thankfully we're keeping our current home for a little while at least so I should have some wiggle room. I could definitely use some advice on how to do the move and minimize potential losses.

Wow, it's a big week for you! Congratulations on the house.
And congratulations on not having to move during the winter!

Congrats on the house! Awww, that's great about seeing the new grandbaby. :)

I can't imagine actually moving a tank! My tank transfer from the 46 to the 90 in the same room about did me in. It required 4 people, tons of towels, a million Rubbermaid tubs with heaters (well, maybe not a million, but a lot), and a whole lot of freshly made saltwater. I don't know how much coral you have, but my system was 5 years old at the time. Breaking down the rock was the most challenging because I had a lot of SPS that had spread among the rockwork so I had to take the rock out in big chunks. I had a 29 gallon set up in yet another room for the fish. Once I got most of the rock out and the water was down (siphoned into the 29), I could net the fish. I also had 2 pistol shrimp at the time....they were a little harder to find. I did lose a wrasse, who made it into the 29 but must have been overly traumatized or hurt. The others did fine, including the 2 pistol shrimp and 2 starfish. Once everything was out, we moved the 90 into the same spot and started the transfer back in...rock, sand, water, fish.

Hopefully, this will at least give you some ideas. Good luck with it all!
