Happy Labor Day and how do you labor?

I'm a funeral director, so we don't really do the whole "days off" thing, for fairly obvious reasons! At least I don't need to be in the office today, but I'm on call. Spending the down time researching compatible coral species for nano tanks

I’m a senior engineer at a telecom, spending the day getting ready for some new impulse buy corals to come this week

Seems like long weekends always wind up being expensive for the tank

I'm retired but have a part time job with Beach Operations for a near by city just to get out of the house a few days a week. So far today I have just lounged around the house and tried to fix the ATO pump on the tank. Need a new impeller. Now I am going to run a few errands. Maybe later I will have a cold one and grill something. Wife is working today and my boys just keep raiding the fridge and playing vidio games. Nice relaxing day for a change.

Happy Labor Day!



It's Labor Day here is the USA and a lot of people have the day off so today I'm going to kick back and relax with an easy one today!

Since it is Labor Day, what do you do to earn a living. What is your career, your job, your "labor?"

I'm a nurse. I'll have worked 48 hours by Thursday evening! Y'all enjoy your day off.

I'm a Merchant Marine Officer aboard a dredge ship for the Army Corps of Engineers. I work two weeks on two weeks off and luckily I am home today enjoying the tank and drinking some coffee! Like many occupations the ship's watch must always be manned 24hrs a day 365 days a year and my thoughts are always with the nurses, doctors, law enforcement, military, EMS, firefighters manning their post when we get to enjoy being home. Sorry to anyone I left out and happy Labor Day!

I own a restaurant and it has been closed since March so yeah I’m not working today. Did mount some new corals today though. Normally I work as the chef/owner

I'm taking the day off to do nothing. My day job is an IT Program manager for Eide Bailly, LLP based out of Fargo, ND but we have 45 offices across the midwest. I work 100% from home now, which allows my fish to get tired of me when I'm at home this much.

I oversee our Customer Relationship Management System for the entire firm and requires a lot of thought and stress, so days off consist of no thought and no thinking.

I also teach Masters and undergrad Project Management and IT college courses for the University of Mary. I've done this for 8 years now and it has enabled me to be in the reef hobby and not go broke!

Work as System Damages Rep, night shift at Toyota Motor Manufacturing of KY, manufacturers of all the Camrys in NA, Avalons and Hybrid Ravs and Lexus ES350.

I was in the dredging industry for a number of years as well. It is definitely a much different lifestyle than your typical 0800-1700 occupation.

A fellow mud sucker! That’s awesome. Nice to meet you. And yes totally agree. It’s a completely different lifestyle. I used to sail with MSC doing 8 month hitches. Very happy with my new schedule. I’m on the Wheeler right now if you’re interested in looking her up. We mainly dredge the Mississippi, but right now we’re in Cameron because of the hurricane that went through.

I'm fortunate to be off work today but literally everything I'm touching is breaking so it has not been a good day off.

I'm permanently banned from most tech in my house. Vacuums, laundry, dishwasher, TV, gaming consoles, and all but my (thirteenth....) laptop and my (ninth...) phone. After the vacuum quite literally burst into flames, my husband decided it was cheaper for me just to stop "helping". Believe me when I say that I totally get the feeling!

In my real life I'm a molecular microbiologist studying antibiotic resistance mechanisms. (for those interested I'm better described as a bacterial geneticist/microbial physiologist.). As I'm a researcher I spend way too much time in the lab so today was a thumbs up.

Nice to meet you also! When I worked in the industry I was a Protected Species Observer (I monitored for interactions with marine mammals, sea turtles and sturgeon). I never worked on the Wheeler but did a number of trips onboard the McFarland (working on the Delaware River), another large dredge owned by the USACE. These days I have a more traditional lifestyle and drive a desk.
