That's a regular green/purple hammer. Very common, not flashy. I'd go $15-$20 per head if fragged up into 1-4 heads on frag. If selling the whole colony, somewhere between $5-$10 per head, and depending on the local market, could take a long time to sell it.

But it looks AWESOME! and I love seeing huge colonies grown out like that.

And don't count "baby polyps/heads" when counting heads. There's nothing more annoying than the people that price a single head on something for X and then another frag of the same thing for 2X and the caption says "one head splitting into two"

my colony has grown so much, i probably wouldnt sell a head for more than 20$. but, i personally would prefer to do a trade as it would benefit me more than just 20 bucks that will get used on something not related to my tank. or, at the least, if i knew of a new reefer, give them one to start off with.

Around here ppl sell frags for around $10 to $20 per head. A big colony goes for significantly less per head. I bet someone would pay $100 for it.

Yeah and that mindset sucks imo. If I'm talking trade with someone, and they ask me what I think my piece is valued at, I stopped taking them seriously.

The monetary value is irrelevant. If I have a coral you want and you have a coral I want and we trade.. I've personally traded torches for mushrooms and mushrooms for torches.

It isn't about the price but rather movement of the coral if one tries to keep the colony and move it to another display. They always forget the weight inside the display vs. out and when it breaches the surface bad things happen

This is hard when you start but gets much better with time. Trade your abundance for coral you don’t have. And eventually you’ll have a beautiful reef with all your buddies/local’s coral

That doesn't surprise me at all. You don't know where to look. Of course you're not going to find those pricing at retail vendors. Where do you think they buy from? And where do you think that distributor buys from? Oh yeah importers! Who bring in 50 to 200 head colonies of Euphyllia about every day. There IS a market price on large colonies being sold to chop and resell. You don't know it.

Yes it’s resale after resale but often with importers you have to buy a minimum of several hundred dollars or it’s only wholesale. And yes trading corals is big in this hobby and removes the monetary value but not everyone has people around to do it with.

I've actually been really surprised by how generous local reefers have been in trades. People are thrilled to get something from you that they want, and when people are trading, they normally have what you want in excess. Tbh I was surprised by this.

I'm failing to see the point here. You disagreed with my original price assessment, in a market you don't actually understand. You made it very clear quoting website pricing.

There are what now five or six actual buyers and sellers in this thread, buying or selling heads at around and Way under my assessment.

This reminds me of a great quote from an American Hero. "Don't be in a rush to speak in an educated manner about something you know nothing about" -Andy Stumpf

Heads are around $50-$200 each depending on various factors so I multipled it.

You can disagree with My assessment. I could care less. The People who are actually buying and selling these are the ones setting the market. Not someone who doesn't own them, doesn't buy them, and only looks at Retail pricing and try to apply it to bulk buys.

It really is. This happened to me TWICE this spring at our local club's frag swap. And what's great is that now we keep in touch DMing grow-out photos of the corals. It's a great way to strengthen the community.

Hammers and frogs in colonies at 10 bucks a head...

I was gonna say... I remember a time when I sold a huge hammer like this for a grand total of $75.
