Help me price this HUGE hammer colony

Not really that many factors in regards to this coral. The general consensus from all over is about 20-30 a head for a frag and less than 350 for the colony.

You say you have a nice fish store, but how nice is it if they are really gouging prices like that. If they are who you are referring to for pricing that thing out. To me, they may be "nice", but if I was ripping people a new one for corals, I would be "very very nice" if they were buying them.
I spent $70 on a small hammer frag that I killed by accident not that the point but I do get my corals there. For me I’m okay with that why because I don’t have to pay $30-$50 in shipping either. Supply and demand. Limited supply and high demand or no local competition equals higher costs.

About an hour and half but I personally probably wouldn’t other than a show. I have a limited selection not that I have a bad selection. I have a fantastic fish store near me. Like I mentioned there’s just so many factors.
I drive that for decent coral. $40 frag locally is 25 an hour and half away. Locally 80 dollars for 2 frags 1.5 hours away 3 and if I catch them on sale buy 2 get on free I'll end up with four you need to find a new store .
Not that it would sell but it could be listed as that. I’ve seen them listed as that and more so it’s based on what I’ve seen. From perspective you have to look at factors like is there a lot of competition around…is reefing popular in that location the answer for me is no so it will cost more in person. And a frag is $70 but again the way I look at it is you aren’t paying for shipping you don’t have to travel far and they have a great reputation.
See above.

Yep she really needs to make a trip to another store with better selections

I wouldn't pay more than 20 per frag from local reefers selling it. Locally 15-20 is expected. If I would get 15 at lfs in credit thats what I'm selling it for to other reefers.

What do you think local sellers are competition for the lfs. Your fish store is taking advantage that they are the only ones in your local area. If you would travel that 70 dollar frag would cost half that or you spend 70 on a nicer peice.

Even a lfs for credit would only take that whole colony for175-250, cut it up and sell for 30 a head.

Are you incapable of or just unwilling to accept real life, factual information given from Multiple reefers here who actually have experience on something you claim to?

You aren't the market on large colonies. You don't know the market on large colonies. You are comparing frags at a LFS to a bulk head colony and trying to give others a lesson on Supply and Demand...

The day you know half as much as you generally pretend to, we're all in trouble.
But I have seen large heads like this being sold for hundreds even at shows. That’s my point. It’s based on what I’ve seen/multiplied it. I’m not pretending or making things up.

You do realize there's a minimum purchase to get free shipping.
I’m aware depending on the seller it’s several hundred. Typically I’ve seen $200+ to get that which is either a few small frags or one or two large corals.

We have all seen outrageous pricing on all manner of corals, but that doesn't mean it sold or should be priced like that.

End of day, that piece is worth no more than 250-300 to the right person or 10-20 a frag.

Someone needs to write a book called "Coral Pricing" and throw it in with the series of books that all have a word I am not going to use in yellow on the cover.

Thats 3 frags from your local seller. You need to find a new lfs

just got one at Reefsmart show in Raleigh a couple weeks ago...nothing exotic just a regular bright green hammer....about golf ball sized for $20
I call bull on this. I was at the same show and no torch or hammer was under $100. Was this at the end of the night :face-with-tears-of-joy:

My son and i spent around $400 and came home with 29 frags. But couldn’t find one torch under $50. We literally stopped asking at every booth how much they were.

Ill say im very new to this hobby and what some hobbiest are selling frags for from there home aquarium is ludicrous. Im not paying the same price as a store. I would rather support the store. I definitely don’t get it but i do get capitalism so if your dumb enough go ahead ;)

@AydenLincoln
Look at that a regular hammer for 49.99. Cheaper than your lfs.
Look att all that you can get for less than 140 and still be cheaper than your lfs with shipping.
But hey what do we all know?

Now that’s just mean! Also it’s a great book. And we can all learn.
I fail to see how it is mean. I am in no way trashing that book. Never even read it to know what it consists of. Merely used it to outline what I was referring to in terms of "Coral Prices" book I suggested. Not a fan of the word used on those books, as no one is that word unless they choose to be. So I do not use it.

20 a head? I’ll take 2 heads

idk why hammers and such are so expensive some places as they are fairly easy to grow and a lot less finicky than torches. Really odd. Plus there always seems to be a slew of them coming in from mariculture or whatever. You can probably go to most any coral vender and find some for sale. There does not seem to be any real shortage of them. Maybe just people getting in and out of hobby all the time need them.

Well… this was fun

so… $20-$30 a head? @AydenLincoln that’s $120-$130 for you. It’s a great deal. Free shipping. I googled it, it’s a great deal, I’ve seen them listed for way more! Why pay less when you can pay more?

UPDATE- changed the name from Hammer to “THE ONLY AND THE BEST DAME REGULAR GREEN HAMMER IN THE WORLD” and it’s now $1200 per head. You can be the only one in the world to own one with that name! What an opportunity!
