Help plz!!

When i was changing out carbon i thought i grabbed all the old filter cartridges out. My wife was rushing me do to the fact we had to go train horses that day and well needless to say 1 got left and man was it nasty lol that was the root cause bc i got all new carbon and filters today and now its improving

I apologize but I strongly disagree with your statement, panic is a very healthy state of mind, you don't need to not panic to have a clear head. doing a massive water change is not the end of the world and is most certainly not a bad thing, neither is smaller water changes. if he wants to get the water clear quickly it is an option of doing a massive water change and watch the parms not a panic type move.

I really do apologize and your advice is well taken.
Its all good, no need to apologize your statement presents a different thinking mode and I respect that, its all good :)

Glad to hear you got it all worked out with the carbon change:clap2:

I knew something was up with it, carbon cleans the water. I honestly seen it just work a miracle on a 20g tank that was flat out nuclear, I mean I didn't even want to stick my hands in there lol.I put my hob carbon filter on there and it is crystal clear, with a nem and a clam in there that are thriving.

No problem at all bro! We are all different and react differently, I think we both needed to get this out. I am just glad that it's fixed and life can move on. I have been told by multiple bosses that I work best under fire and move quickly, making snap decisions that could cost thousands of dollars in a matter of hours, It's my job.

Have a good one and happy reefing!!!

Just read thru this and was going to tell you to check your filter and change it but someone already beAt me to it. Glad to hear its fixed and don't worry, we all make newbie mistakes, we're only human.

I may not be out of the woods yet my wife decided to feed the fish tonight and overfed drastically lol. Looks like a major water change coming up again

i hate those things i had one b4 and i went out and dumped a container of fish food into my old 75 reef tank

Well now I know not to use one! Haha, just thought it might help. My kids and grandkids used to trash my tanks feeding fish... they no longer touch the tank, don't even ask....hummmm. maybe it was something I said and a look I might have given as I was going though what you are....

However, when that happened to me I got my trash can out, filled it enough to cover my coral and rock, placed everythin in it then slowly added fresh saltwater with a drip. While this was happening I drained my water down to the sandbed and the samw for the sump. Filled the tank and sump with all new water, changed all filters and media. I did leave enough room in the tank for the rock and corals. Acclimated all into the tank. I added some bio zyme and it actually fixed it. Maybe i was lucky but I didn't lose anything.

Idk what to do came home from work today and its 100 times worse now then it was the other day. Its to the point to where im ready to tear it down and redo it so frustrating atm

Here is what I would: I would take the carbon out and run just filter floss or poly fiber. I would also consider adding Kent water clarifier.

ok im seriously confused i took a little of the water out and put in a 10gal because im gonna run no lights for a day the glass container i pulled the water out with is a typlical clear glass jar and the water is crystal clear but when you look down in the tank its yellow and cant see to the bottom sigh whats going on!!!!

I'm not an expert but it's beginning to seem like a chemical or bacterial situation. However, if it's chemical the new carbon should have removed it. Bacteria multiplies so even water changes may not fix unless it's a complete change. Or the problem is just that you have 0 good bacteria to fight the bad. Are you running bio pellets or dosing vodka? Maybe it's in your water source?

You may not see it outside of the tank but your tank lights could have made it visible. Also, remember what I said happened to me. I filled a 30g trash can with RO water and it looked clear when I did it. I got pulled away and came back a couple hours later and I couldn't see to the bottom. It turns out that I had been adding that water into my tank without knowing it was bad and that was the cause of my tank cloudiness.

Maybe you should try an experiment. If you have a black trash can or even a white one. Put some white tape inside about 1/2 way and fill it up. Wait a couple of hours and check it. If nothing else you can rule your water source out.

I have a black can that I only use for ro water but I have several tanks so I have it marked with white duct tape at 5g intervals. It looked fine but when I came back the tape appeared clouded and tan as opposed to its previous bright white. It caught my eye instantly and that's how I knew it was my water. Water can look clear in smaller amounts than in a larger quantity.

Like I said, I am not an expert but I would rule out your water source first. Also, has revhtree seen this post yet? I don't recall seeing any comments here from him. Do yourself a huge favor and PM him and ask if he would look at your post. He may have simply missed it with so many popping up daily. But this is the guy you need :) http://httpwww.reef2reef.com/forums/members/revhtree.html

Out of curiosity i was wondering could my tank in fact be recycling i used the dr tims one and only method added a clown the day i added the bacteria the water stayed crystal clear til this past week when i tested everything read 0 except for nitrates which has never been higher than 5ppm i added coral and 2 fish to it over the course of a few weeks could that be whats going on?
